Hi Sasha,

Love your products! I purchased the "What's Bugging You" Preposition Edition and on 2 of the pages the symbol typically used for "in" was in place of the "on" symbol. I just wanted to let you know because it was confusing some of my students. Thanks again for creating so many great activities. Tai

nikkilourens re: Classroom Jobs Visual Directions and Labels! Set 1!
Hello Sasha.... your website and products are wonderful and have inspired me so much! I want to purchase the Visual Daily Schedule Set 1 and 2 as well as the Classroom Jobs. There are about 18 labels that I still need and I feel bad asking you to make those extra. If I pay for an extra set (e.g pay for visual schedule set 1 twice) would you be willing to make the additional labels I need? IF this works for you please let me know and I will make the purchases and email you with the additional labels I need.
Thank you for your hard work in making these resources available. I will be teaching a lifeskills class for the first time next year and I don't have access to boardmaker until the new school year starts, so this will be very, very helpful :)
Thank you so much,
Nikki

That's no problem at all! I don't mind making the extra pictures- no need to pay extra! The only problem is that my work computer is broken- it should be fixed with the next week. It might take me a week or two to get you the additional pictures, if that's alright. Not sure if you need them for this year or next.

If that's okay- my email is sasha.theautismhelper@gmail.com. Let me know what pictures you would like!

avanderford re: 20 Special Education Data Sheets
Hi Sasha, I found your website last night and am obsessed!! I also teach students with autism in a self contained classroom, and from the looks of your blog (that I spent about 3 hours reading last night!) and your products, we have similar teaching styles and philosophies! I just purchased the data sheets - which I Love!, but was wondering if there was any way to get them in Word or Publisher so I could edit them for my specific students? Also, I saw someone else requested your IEP data sheet, which is genius and what I plan to do in the fall with my new caseload - would you be willing to send that to me as well? My email is avanderford@lakeorion.k12.mi.us - I'm so looking forward to all of the new things you come up with!! Thank you!

Hi! First off - thank you SO much for your purchase! I am happy they are useful to you! I would be happy to send them to you however - the only problem is most of the data sheets are originally boardmaker files. Do you have boardmaker? They will only open if you have the software. Let me know and I will send them over. I will also send over some of the links to my IEP data sheets as well!

HI Sasha,
I just ordered MANY of your materials yesterday and spent the evening oohing and aahing! I am starting a new developmental prog next year. So excited to get a jump start on my classroom organization. Do you have a sub folder? Mine is so complicated bc of students and paras. No one would have the time or ability to grasp what is done. Hence my paras stepping up and leading if I ever am out. Just thought you might be as organized without being too complicated and post your template. Thanks again for all you hard work!

Hi! Thank you so much for your purchases, first off! Hope you enjoy them :)

I COMPLETELY understand what you mean about the substitute issue. Nobody can quite understand, right?! I leave a detailed sub note and a copy of our daily schedule. Then - at each station where I am at (ie. running morning group, direct instruction, etc.) I leave a mini schedule with associated easy work. So for example at direction instruction - I'll have for Joe work on these puzzles, for Sharon & Mike work on these worksheets, etc. I do that for each station for each student. Usually I can group students into sections so that's easier (ie. these 5 students work on this bin of work etc.). Does that make sense? It's not a nice sub bin like many other teachers have - but I have found that even when I make those - they aren't used correctly anyways. Hope this helps!

mrickman re: The MOST Space Efficient & Organized Work Task System for a Special Ed Classroom
Hi Sasha! Thanks for the great system! I have a question...is there only one task in each bin? I bought a bunch of plastic shoe boxes last night and super excited to get everything organized. Also, why do we print four copies of the letters and numbers and not two? One gets taped onto the shoe box, and one gets put on the schedule to be matched up. I noticed you have a list in the front of your binder. Do you keep track of what task is in what shoebox?

Thanks again for everything! Sorry I'm so confused LOL

Hi! Sorry for the delay in responding. Yes I would put one task into each box. I gave you extra copies of the letters/numbers because trust me - you will lose the ones the student matches. Yes - I make a list of what tasks are in each box because sometimes I lose track. Check out these posts for more info:

Hi Sasha, I love your work and I have purchased many of your products. My most recent purchase was the discrete trial forms. There was a small typo on page 10 of the Expressive Letter Identification form. It simply states students will say correct name of color where it should say letter instead. If you could adjust this that would be great. Thanks so much. Do you have any forms for letter sounds available?

Hi Sasha, I love the packet that I got from you. :) I just had a question about the visuals for with the time-out picture underneath. I got the instructions but there was no separate sheet with the three strikes and then the time-out visuals underneath. Is that not included? The instructions show how it's done (with a picture) but I didn't receive the ones with the student sitting in time-out (there were 3 of them) and then with the visuals that go over top. Let me know if you have them and I can even buy them separately. Thank you so much!!!!

I am a new teacher on this site and wondered if you could answer a question for me. I am looking specifically at special education materials and so enjoyed looking at your excellent materials. I am a sp.ed. teacher, too, and I am thinking of posting some of my materials for fun. Can you share your approach to getting Boardmaker to let you use their icons? Do you have to pay them a fee in order to use their product? Any information would be appreciated. I am not sure how to proceed. Thanks so much in advance for your thoughts! Carol

Simple fix: on a mac choose scale to fit and fill entire page or fill entire page during print setup and both should work. On a pc under printer options (or expand the print box when you choose print) choose page scaling - and either fit to printable area or shrink to printable area. That should save as a default for future printing. Let me know if this works!!

Hello Sasha! I am addicted to your site, the autism helper. I just bought your data sheet pack and hope that you could explain more on the "card flipping" baseline to me?
March 3, 2013 Report inappropriate comment
n/a
Sasha Hallagan  (TpT Seller)
Yes of course! Sorry I didn't elaborate more on that in packet. So basically - we don't want to set any goal for a student that they physically cannot do. So if you are having the student flip through their own cards - you need to see how fast they can simply flip through the cards. If they can only flip 35 cards a minute - your reading fluency goal shouldn't be 45 a minute - because they physically will not be able to ever meet that. If an adult is flipping the cards, you may want to do a baseline on them too. The adult may be faster than the child but depending on the individual this could still cause some fluency breakdowns. Does this make sense at all? Sorry - I haven't finished my coffee yet haha! Shot me an email (sasha.theautismhelper@gmail.com) and I would be happy to explain more!!

Hello Sasha,
I just want to start out by saying how much I love your materials! I have bought quite a few and used them with great success! I do have a question for you. I would like to sell and share some of my activities however I create them with Boardmaker. The activities themselves are original but the art is not. Long ago I recall that we could share activities with boardmaker pictures but not sell them. Are we allowed to sell activities that use boardmaker pictures? I saw several activities of yours that had boardmaker pictures and thought you might be in 'the know'. I am not even sure where to look up the info. If you could direct me I would be grateful. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So happy you like it! I either buy sticky back Velcro circles or strips and cut them up. I guess there is not necessarily a "right" way to do it just pick one way and be consistent (ie all of your pieces will have the same type of Velcro). And yep - I always do the pieces in soft Velcro and the pages in hard Velcro. Hope this helps :)

Thanks for the resource. It has been very helpful. My student really loves his new schedule. There are a couple of classes I do not have icons to match. Would it be possible to add icons for Guidance and Spanish? -Kris Hunt, LTS, VT

For some reason, when I try to print it a majority of the pages are cut off as if the picture is too large. Can you offer some sort of solution to this for me? Thanks a bunch!

Oh no! I'm so sorry - I hope you didn't waste a bunch of ink! Simple fix: on a mac choose scale to fit and fill entire page or fill entire page and both should work. On a pc under printer options (or expand the print box when you choose print) choose page scaling - and either fit to printable area or shrink to printable area. That should save as a default for future printing. Let me know if that doesn't work and I can resend you the download! Sorry!!

Hi Sasha, I am a HUGE fan! Thank you for sharing all of your great ideas. I have two questions: could you please add the recipes you use for samples & could you clarify the '5 Words Like' center? I was wondering if there are word cards that were not included or if I am missing something in the packet. Could you please help? Thanks! Jen

Hi Jennifer! Sorry it took me a few days to respond! I would be happy to send you those recipes. Either send me your email or email me at sasha.theautismhelper@gmail.com and I will send them right over. For the '5 words like' - we use vocabulary words right now. But I would be happy to make a set of flashcards for common words to go with that set. So happy you like it :) I'll send those additions right over to you once I get your email!

I just wanted to comment on your blog, TPT store and everything you have set up. I am a second year teacher teaching 3-6 severely handicapped students. I came across your blog and found we have many similar things in our rooms. I too use working cards, TEACCH task boxes/file folders, adapted books and visual sentence strips. I spend hours, I mean HOURS creating everything. I love it, I love BoardMaker, I love my laminator and of course velcro! I bought several of your materials as it was just such a good time saver for me. Your products are similar to mine! You inspired me to post some more of my materials that I just had sitting in my computer files.

I do not have a question other than please continue to share your resources with us. Also, stop by my page anytime!

Your blog has been added to my Favorites toolbar, I've checked it every day the last two weeks ever since I found it :)

Michie re: Discrete Trial Goal Sheets and Data Forms
Sasha,

I just purchased the discrete trials and goals data sheets. These data sheets look much different than any I've used before. If the student answers correctly, and I put a +, does that go under "number correct" and if it is a - under "number incorrect?" Then do you total it somehow to see how many were correct/incorrect or a total percentage? I find it interesting that you do not take data on what each target is...i.e. yellow was a + and red was a -. That is how every form I've seen is set up. Other teachers working with my students would have stopped taking data on yellow after three days of correct responses, but continued with red if the responses weren't correct. So I find it interesting that you don't look at what the target is. Does that make any sense? It is late and I'm rambling. Sorry.

Hi!

Yes - I know exactly what you mean. So I include in the instruction/goal sheet to put a +/- but of course you could also just tally under correct/incorrect as well. I just wanted to leave the option open since many people are used to using +/- and if you are training paraprofessionals I think putting a + under the correct side provides an additional prompt to ensure they are marking data under the correct spot. But you could absolutely use tallies.

The rational on not moving on once one color in a set is mastered and the other two are not: I agree that many people would move on after one target is mastered, however I think keeping the set the same will provided mastered comparative targets and help with comparing data. So if red is mastered but yellow and blue are not - your student is more likely to master yellow and blue more quickly since they already know one in the set instead of throwing a new color in the mix which may further confuse discriminating. Ie. When they see red they know that is red and the blue and yellow options must be blue or yellow. Process of elimination. Also when charting your data - I put phase change lines in between sets. Then you can compare all of your data on set 1 because they are all taken from the same set of colors. If you added in a new color you couldn't compare just that set. Does that make sense at all? Now I think I am rambling!

Please email me if you have any questions: sasha.theautismhelper@gmail.com I'd be happy to talk about it more!

How do we play your new bingo game? I am guessing only with straight lines across and down since diagonal lines don't work.
Also a couple of the matching sheets near the back are labeled match the picture to name, but they only show pictures. Can you relabel them?
thanks!

Oops thanks for catching that. I had a few different versions and uploaded the wrong one without the updates. Yes for bingo it would be only straight lines but you could also do 4 corners (my guys love that) or whole board! I'll email you the two new sheets! Hope your kids like it!

Sasha,

Do you happen to have any 1:1 correspondence with the numbers 10 - 20? I bought your cupcake activity and my son loves the side by side matching the number "1" to one cupcake. He has flown through the 1 - 9 :-) Just curious if you made any for the higher numbers. Thank you sooo much :-)

I just noticed in this packet that there was a symbol for the color brown, but no brown picture. You did seem to have two blue pictures (mittens and bugs). I am going to color the mittens brown for my packet but I just wanted to let you know. Thanks!

Omigosh thank you for letting me know! I recently changed that product because the acorn picture I had prior was confusing for some people and I mistakenly put in the blue bug! Sorry about that! Thanks again for the heads up! :)

Hi Sasha! I love your stuff!! I just got the What am I and Where am I activity. I was wondering if there was a way to provide separate pictures for the answers (ie teacher, etc.) My little guy is non verbal and I think it would work better if he could present a picture as the answer. Thank you!

What do you do if/when a child does not earn all the stars for a particular station?

Great question! So it depends a little on the student. I have some kids that could potentially get super upset if they don't get their reward. Sometimes I want to go there - to make the stars meaningful - ie. you don't do your work you really won't get your reward. A few options:
- they lose the reward - but make sure they have an additional opportunity to earn something available. Ie. you lost your reward opportunity at teacher time but you can now earn another one if you do all your work at work station. Basically you don't want to leave them with no other option or you may have a huge tantrum on your hands
- wait it out - if it's a 'want to' problem (they can do the work but don't want to) let them take their time and do - they just may earn less reward time
- provide options for work (maybe the work is too hard?) provide a similar task option in place of the task at hand.

Does this help? Let me know if you have other questions!

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching in a self contained autism room for 6 years and I love it! I teach 10-14 years olds and have a wide range of types of students in my classroom.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Autism is a spectrum so I have a big variety in my classroom! We need to incorporate life skills instruction, social skills training, academic teaching, communication systems, behavior management, hygiene training, inclusion, expressive/receptive language instruction, and fine/gross motor practice into one busy day. Each child's curriculum is developed specifically for them based on their IEP goals. Organization is key with this much going! My paraprofessionals make fun of my perfectionist tendencies but that is how we get so much done! The backbone of our classroom is Applied Behavior Analysis- which I am currently getting my masters in. We take consistent and thorough data, make data based instructional decisions, and look at the function of the behavior for all behavior management systems!
