I quickly scan magazines and pull out inappropriate pictures. Flyers and grocery store ads are great. My husband get racing magazines and golf magazines I use a lot. You may ask people you know to save junk mail for you. A lot of small flyers and product catalogs I get work well.

I know you are going to think I am an idiot but I honestly thought I had purchased the compound words and was shocked when I realized that it was the word and picture sort that I do not need. I am not very computer savvy but I guess there is no way to "trade" this for the compound words one is there. By the way, I love your work. I am using the math journals in my class now and I just love your stuff. It really is helping me with easing into common core (while I am supposed to be totally immersed). I just bought the 1.nbt.1 activity pack. I didn't look at it carefully before purchasing it. My district is required to use a 99 chart (basically starting with 0, instead of 1). Would you be able to change the numbers chart to accommodate this? If not, I understand. Everything looks really good! :)

I teach first grade, and some of my lower level students didn't get that either. We talk about how characters change in readings throughout the year so hopefully they will get it before school is out. I didn't go back to this particular book, but have continued talking about it using other books.
