I'm a high school teacher with over 12 years of teaching experience in different cities in Ontario, Canada. I've taught a lot of different courses within the Canadian and World Studies Curriculum such as History, Civics and Law. I've also taught World Religions, Introduction to Anthropology, Psychology, and Sociology, Managing Personal Resources, and Careers. Some of my best experiences have come from being a guidance counselor and seeing the other side of life for many students. It has definitely made me a more compassionate teacher. I recently relocated to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and have started teaching part time at the University of Saskatchewan in the College of Education. I'm excited to be working with beginning teachers as they start their careers.
Even though I've been teaching for many years, I think my teaching style is something that is dynamic - always changing. It depends on the grade level and types of students that are in front of me. My classes are always quite structured but I like to make learning fun and do different things each day. Students know that I have high expectations of them but they also know that I believe in them and will work with them to achieve success. One of the ways that students in my class can have some fun and be successful is that I often give choices as to how they complete assignments. I enjoy planning courses and creating engaging activities that will benefit all students. These are the ideas and activities I hope to be able to share with all the other teachers out there!
