TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught 9-12 grade English Language Arts, Writing, Journalism (yearbook, newspaper, and literary journal) as well as tutoring at the college level. I spent several years as a writing coach at the school level. I am a certified CRISS (CReating Independence through Student-owned Strategies) and 6-Traits of Writing trainer, and I am Nationally Board Certified. As a leader in the district I provided training and curriculum design and implementation. I also served as a board member of the Florida Council of Teachers of English, an editor of The Florida English Journal, and a co-department chair overseeing 20+ teachers. In 2010 I founded The English Teacher's Friend, a non-profit 501c3 organization dedicated to assisting secondary English Teachers and their students with innovative programs and resources. Currently, I am working from home with several educational companies and enjoying the freelance writing life.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Teaching is learning so I lead by example. When I want my students reading and writing, I read and write with them. I believe our schools need more creative and relevant materials in the classroom.
