Hey there! Because of the fonts and the clip art, the format needs to be "fixed" in a PDF mode. You can view it just like a powerpoint by clicking the "full-screen" option. The "interactive" piece comes from students being able to answer questions and do hands-on activities as they view it.

Our grade level team sets up these STEM challenges as a center-like format in the classroom. Students actually research using the computer (technology) as well as type up their results to post when they are finished. Many of the challenges require a quantitative component (math). They have to make many engineering/design decisions before they perform the experiment. For this one, they have to choose any liquid and then figure out how high they will keep the dropper from the penny's surface, how fast they will drop the liquid onto the surface, where they will drop the liquid on the surface, etc. We use these challenges as starting points for talking about science concepts (like surface tension). We do classroom labs throughout the week that are more guided, in these challenges students can make a lot more of the decisions versus just following the steps of a science experiment.

For each chapter, there are approximately 3-5 sheets to use in addition to the vocabulary, questions, and project challenges. Does the boarding passes have the capability to type in the information rather than print? I purchased this from you a couple of years ago and would love to have the ability to print the passenger information rather than print due to my multiple 5th grade classes (40-50 students). I bought the literature unit for Where the Mountain Meets the Moon. You have some great stuff in it. However, when I went to print it, the font is very hard to read and very small. I spoke to my tech guy at work and he was unable to fix it. I am now retyping the parts that I want to use for my students so that it is more student friendly. Any suggestions?

I purchased Playdough Monster Writing from you a few weeks ago...we made our monsters yesterday, and are still working through the writing process. I've noticed today as I was glueing the monsters to the card stock that a LOT of them are cracking, etc... I imagine this is to be expected as playdough dries, but I was wondering if you have any recommendations for keeping the monsters looking nice? I assume you have probably picked up a few ideas after doing this activity with your class a few times... Thanks!!!

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I have taught for 16 years in a large, urban, public school district (I have taught in three different schools) and I LOVE it! I taught self-contained, multi-age gifted class for past seven years. Prior to this assignment, I taught regular ed 4th and 5th grades. I am now in an at-risk school teaching 5th grade! I am so lucky to have such great students, past and present!

I have a progressive and eclectic, a "whatever works" approach to teaching. I always want to keep kids engaged and interested in what we are doing. I do a lot of hands-on, project-based activities in all subject areas. I believe in always teaching at a high level with high expectations for both myself and my students.
