Thank you so much,

Howdy! Go to Pinterest.com and open an account, Then, create a board for your items. Next, go to your tpt store and each of your creations has a little icon with the word "pin" - just click on that and it will "pin" your item to your board. Best of luck! Peg :8)

She is isn't she? Thanks so much for writing a nice note about her! I'm passionate about helping animals and children (who have been disenfranchised). If u can believe it - this little girl was locked in a cage w no food or water when her owner's home was repossessed. It took her about six months to finally figure out that she was "safe" with us and settle down. Have a great day! Peg :8)

Heather Rice - The Bag Lady
Hi, Peggy,
I am sorry. I don't know what happened. But I didn't see anything from you. I would have definitely written back to thank you for your stuff.
I will start using dimes.
I did buy him an IPAD. I am so glad that I did. There are so many wonderful apps out there.
I bought a ten frame from a clip art seller. But, it wasn't quite right. It used dots, and they were all the same color. So, I made a ten frame with donuts. I am using donuts of different colors. For example, ten frames are all pink donuts. Then I made a ten frame and glued it to a foam board. I hot glued magnets to it. Then I cut out white and chocolate frosted donuts, put them on foam, and then hot glued on magnets.
So, I am using that with him now.
I like it and it seems to work. I have also been using it with addition problems. Like a might have a ten frame and then another ten frame with six pink donuts on it. When I ask him how many more he needs to get 20, I have him use a different color donut so it is more obvious which ones he just added to get 20. Thanks for your help-Heather

Finally saw what I did wrong today (sent it back on the 21st to .com instead of .net). So sorry about that - just resent and I'll send you some more stuff as soon as I see that you got this one. Peg :8) Wow, that's weird - I'll send some stuff again - maybe it ended up in your spam folder? Isn't the iPad amazing? I'm so glad you got one for him - you should start seeing some amazing progress. There are also some really good ideas on Pinterest - there's one I saw the other day that used paper cups to teach place value - I'm going to try that one with some of my students because it's genius and basically free! Anyway, look for games with money that are interactive and have the whole family play them - letting your son use his iPad or coinulater to count them. Also, what I emailed you was that I'd be happy to help you write up a shopping adventure (social story type) for your son that you read together everyday. This is a very affordable way to learn coin counting for children w/autism. Look at my trash basketball game for an idea of what you are looking for in a game. Talk to you soon! Peg :8)

Heather Rice - The Bag Lady
Hi, Peggy! My e-mail is rice269@comcast.net. As far as what I want him to be able to do, I want him to be able to tell me if he has enough money to pay for an item that costs less than $20.00 and to be able to give me enough money to pay for the item. It is ok to go over what he needs, and I am fine with him just using quarters and not counting different combinations of change. Is it ok for him to rely on the coinulator to add money or should I keep working on using quarters and dollars? I worry that he will be stuck if he does not have the coinulator with him.

Don't worry about him using the coinulater - make sure he has it when u go to stores, restaurants, etc make sure u get its use added to the iep- u will likely want to switch up w a iPad in the future as the apps are awesome - u may find it easier to have him use dimes (rather than quarters) as that has proved more successful for my students). Thanks 4 your email and I'll send u some stuff to look over when I get home. Take care! Peg

Oh! This is Heather again ! Which of your math products would you recommend? Michael can sort and identify money. But not add combimnations. He can count off from the last number when adding two number together but requires a number line. (We also use touch math). He shows a limited understanding of place value.

In the "big" picture - what do you want him to be able to do? Understand, that many adults use calculators (and the coin one he is using is one that many of my students love - and that may be the only way that he is able to add coins for many years). Does he understand that u can "get" things from giving people money? Is there something that he really likes (forgive me but those "happy meals" tend to be high interest). If you give me your e-mail, I'll send you some stuff to look over. Peg :8)

Hi, Peggy!
You gave me the advice about the popsicle sticks and you asked how things were going. Sometimes I feel like we are making progress. But, other times I feel like we are not. Have you ever read a book called, "teaching math to children with Down's syndrome and other special needs learners?" That's what I use with him. I am using popsicle sticks. I also bundle straws, use the unifix cubes, medium sized lego blocks, and clothespins. Sometimes I feel like he's getting it, and then it just goes. Also, can I ask you about money? Right now, he can't add combinations of money except with his special money calculator. (You push the coin and it adds it up for you). Right now, I am focusing on paying for stuff with dollars and quarters only. (Having more than you need is ok. Having less than you need is not). I feel like my priorities need to be:
place value, paying for things, counting my 5's, 10's, 25, and sequence of numbers in the number line. Michael can read at the beginning of third grade. But he is actually stuck at first grade in math. (At one point he actually regressed). Would you be willing to look over my math plans for Michael if I paid you? I am pretty confident in his reading and spelling curriculum because I've had training. But, I could use some advice in the math.rice269@comcast.net Heather Rice

U don't need to pay me darlin' I'm a big advocate 4 kids and will gladly do it for free. As for regressing - it happens (a lot). If u think of your brain as a kitchen (with lots of drawers). U store all your knowledge about quarters in one drawer, nickels in another, etc. and then when go to get them - u forgot which drawer u put them in, if u do find them it took so long u have forgotten "why" u were looking for them in the 1st place - but I've worked w kids from k-high school and often it will just "click" after"years" of standing on a plateau - never give up! My email is: jasbv@aol.com. Take care and remember to keep yourself happy because (as I tell my parents I coach) " u cannot give from an empty cup- and your child needs your cup to be full! Light & love! Peg :8)

Peggy,
Do you find it helps get traffic to include the special ed/autism tags in your product title? I haven't, but have chosen special ed as a category. When I do a search for special ed items they don't show up.
Please let me know if you think that helps.
thanks!

I think it does - I tried it without at first but then I couldn't see them when I went to look (just like you said) - we are so specialized anyway that I think it helps to have it on there. Just my thoughts. . .Peg
