tabernacle re: Ecosystem Unit: Living Things, Food Chains Webs, Producers Consumers Decomposers
Hi Stacey,
You have a lot of grades listed for this unit. What grade level did you use it for? I teach 3rd grade so I am looking for a unit that would be geared toward that grade level. Thanks!

Hi tabernacle! I made this unit for third grade and also used it for my fifth grade class. The worksheets/assessments can be adapted to fit grades 2-5. If you look at the preview you'll see many examples of the language and word length used. As far as activities go, they can be used across many grades. I've used in grades 2-5 and I know younger grade level teachers who have used them as well. I hope that helps! Thanks for the great question. :)

Teresaehobson re: Food Chains and Webs, lesson plans, 5Es, worksheets, assessment
Hi Stacy

Do you have a sample of one of your 5E lesson plans for this unit? How many lesson plans are included in this purchase? I am looking for about 8-10 lessons fo the unit.

Regards,
Teresa

Hi Teresa,
I wrote this unit out as one big 5E lesson (so the Engage portion could take a day, the Explore could take 1-2 days, etc.) Since a lot of this is inquiry and exploration, you could make this as short or as long as you like. This mini-unit will focus on transferring conceptual understandings of the food we eat, to the idea of food chains, then into the idea of food webs (interdependence.) This will not be 8-10 different lessons. I usually spend 5-6 solid days on these concepts. I hope that helps to answer your question! Thank you SO much for stopping by! :)

Hello. thanks for your awesome unit. Wondering if there is an overview layout included. Like a Understanding by Design template filled in for ecosystems. Thanks.

Hi Tanya! Thanks for the great question! I do not currently have an overview, but that is a great idea. I did not use Understanding by Design, but did use elements of it in my planning process. I use Backwards Design for most of my science planning, and I did include learning targets based on science standards. Gosh, I wish I had more time because it's such a great idea to include a layout like that. You'll see I divided the unit up into three sections: living vs. nonliving, food chains & webs, then producers, consumers, and decomposers. I then included lesson plans following the 5Es of science. Again, thank you SO much for that great idea. I will work on it in the future and will contact all the buyers when those changes are made. I really hope you enjoy this unit--I began working on it 8 years ago and have built upon it each year! Keep me posted on how it goes. If you have any other questions, please let me know! :)

SusanEngstrom re: Polygon Shapes and Prefixes / Root Words--Connect Literacy with Math!
Hi, I was very excited to use this with my students as we are studying both geometry and pre-fixes. However, every time i tried to print the resources, they came out in jibirish - not sure what to call it but a mix of numbers, letters, and punctuation. Not really sure why? Please advise.

Thank you!

Hi Susan,
Oh no! I don't know how/why it might be converting like that on your computer? I have a Mac, but it was converted to a pdf file, so it shouldn't matter. If you go to the HELP page on teacherspayteachers, they have tips for people who are struggling with dowloads.
However, if you would like to shoot me an email or respond back to this with your email address, I will email you the lesson on a pdf file. My email is sgodbout22@gmail.com
Talk soon!
Stacey

Susan, another option too.. if you go back up to your purchases you can try to download it again. That might help.

Joan Gilliland  (TpT Seller) re: Writing Process Graphic Organizers and Poster Cue Cards
Hi Stacey
I'm a bit confused. Is there something I am missing? Why are the cards different sizes? Do they fit together in a certain way? Also, the process we teach is in a different order, with editing being just before publishing. Can I revise the worksheets in this document, or do I need to cut and paste?
Thanks,
Joan

Hi again! I corrected the document. Were you able to get it?
Thanks!

Hi Joan,
I just opened the document and could see what you mean about the different sizes. I built them all with the same measurement but for some reason they are locked into their shapes and I can't resize them. We have our holiday concert in about 30 minutes. So I will work on the correcting that this evening. You can absolutely revise in any way you need to. Here is my email address (sgodbout22@gmail.com), just shoot me an email and I will send the whole document to you. I use a Mac computer so it is on Pages. Can you work with that? If not, I can make some adjustments for you.
Thanks!

Hi Stacey,
I purchased your rocks and minerals unit, but it would not open. I know it is a JPEG, and I tried several programs, but could not access the file. Can you send post it as a pdf?

Hi!
I'm so sorry about that. I will convert it into a PDF now.
Thanks for letting me know (I've been having a hard time with JPEGs for some reason.)
Talk soon,
Stacey......................

Hi again,
I updated the listing. I think you can get it if you go to the TPT "My Purchases" tab at the top of the page. There should be a link to the unit where you can download the revisions. If you can't, please email me: sgodbout22@gmail.com and I'll email it to you directly. I hope you like the unit. It's one of my favorite units to teach!
Enjoy,
STacey

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am in my ninth year of teaching in Vermont. I am currently teaching 4th grade; I have taught grades 2, 3, 4, and 5. Before teaching, I was a para-educator in grades 1, 2, and 4. I tutored students in grades 3-11. I also coached girls soccer, grades 7 and 8.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I follow the philosophies of Responsive Classroom. I also believe in using inquiry activities, whenever possible, because they are engaging and meaningful for students. I have spent a great deal of time learning about differentiation, and I try to incorporate Multiple Intelligences activities whenever possible. I love using technology as well!

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I recently earned the status of being called a STAR teacher in my district. After three years of study, I am a qualified STAR science teacher, as authorized by the Southwest Vermont Curriculum Coordinators' Collaborative, granted by the Mathematics and Science Partnerships Grant in Vermont.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I attended the University of Vermont and Castleton State College for my BA. I'm currently working on my MA in Curriculum Development, with a focus on literacy, from the University of New England.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I am a Vermont girl and love my state! My husband and I enjoy walking our two dogs: Oscar is a 5 year old black lab and Mila is our german shepherd puppy. I play soccer and also enjoy running.
