Just make sure she knows about the END! The last minute or so has something questionable for kids. It really isn't that bad if you ask me. I made the mistake of showing it once or twice in the 5 years I used it BUT it is there. I think it is only about 3 minutes from the end, in the luminary section. She points out the lady warming her underpants and the man next to her warming his "lack of underpants" which look like cow udders, nothing like the real thing. If she didn't talk about it, I don't think kids would ever notice it. LOL

Ugh! Sorry about that, the videos are quite good and only about 20 minutes long. You might want to suggest to your librarian that she make the purchase since they aren't terribly expensive. They are certainly a lot of bang for your buck! Glad you were able to work out Youtube though. =)

Decent way of showing the differences between different kinds of government. Graphic organizers are a bit awkward...just a simple MS Word job. Overall, worthwhile if doing a unit on comparative gov't. Might be able to adapt it for a world history curriculum.

Disappointing: mostly random fill-in-the blank questions tied to the film; questions don't connect to larger themes of the Dark Ages in any way; contains spelling errors.

It is designed to keep students on task. If it is higher level thinking, then they aren't watching the video. I am just attempting to assist teachers by providing a viewing guide. What you expect kids to take away from the film is up to you. I feel like each teacher is going to best identify his/her own objectives for using the film. =)

The viewing guide did exactly what it was intended to do. It provided a way for my students to interact with the video and produce a resource with which they can study for the evaluation I am going to give them at the end of the viewing. I would have rated the resource all A's if the an evaluation tool would have been included (test or quiz questions) and if the handout was a little more aesthetically pleasing. It did save me the time of viewing the video with the intent of writing questions, and that time saved is well worth more than what I spent on the resource. Recommended.

Thanks for the positive feedback. I do not write evaluation tools because I don't know what your objective is for showing the film. Please consider that each state has their own ways of writing questions to assess student understanding as well. =)

This wasn't very thorough. I felt like the worksheet left out several key points from the video. Had I been able to look over it before, I would not have purchased. There were some typos and grammatical errors as well. I just made my own which is what I should have done in the first place.

This is a VIEWING GUIDE for keeping students on task during a video. Sorry you were unhappy, but it was simply made as a task tool not a higher level thinking actvity. Normally, my students can answer some of the questions before we even watch the video...

The activities are OK but I think the exercise is more suited for primary school; I've found it too simple for secondary school. I liked the last question very much and I think more questions of this type could be added to address older students.

this is a VIEWING GUIDE for watching a video to keep students on task- IF you make the questions higher level thinking, then they are worried about answering the questions NOT watching the video. It is meant to keep them on task NOT to make them think...that is your job for discussion after the video.

This is a viewing guide, only to ensure that students are WATCHING the video. It is not designed to promote higher level thinking. I personally would do that with class discussion. This guide is made only to ensure students stay on task so that they are capable of answering higher level questions during class discussion or some other form. If you make them think during the video, they are watching it. =)

Sorry for any confusion. It does not have a map with it. I used with dry erase board maps, but any map of the us will work. I went back to re-read the advertisement and I don't think I implied there was one? My boards were just simple outline maps of the us and we used our textbooks to clarify for details. I hope this helps. =)

The last time I asked for a copy (four years ago) the lady said that they didn't have the entire set any longer, but had a VHS. I begged for it. It is on Youtube. ProfessorVRandall has it published on her account. I checked and it is from the beginning w/o the first question from my worksheet.

I watched on video checked out from the library. I made the guide a couple of years ago. If you google the titles of the individual shows, it will show it is the last two segments of the four part series. It won't let me put the link that came up through Amazon.com I hope this helps. One of the segments is called so you think you want a revolution and the title worked fine for me.

I haven't used it in a couple of years, but I think it took my kids a couple of 50 minute class periods to work on it in pairs. You can shorten it by cutting some of the assignment off or having them work in pairs to jigsaw the entire work and share with the class.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I created most of my viewing guides while home on maternity leave. They are designed strictly as on task activities NOT higher level thinking. I have some additional assignments posted, but please take this into consideration when downloading a viewing guide. I only make 30 cents each off them, but I am learning a lot and will have them ready for me to go back the classroom. =) After teaching Middle School for 6 years, I am took a break to teach Job Corps students resume skills, employment skills and preparing them for their driving tests. In Middle School: I taught US HISTORY and Government for 6 years to 8th graders. I also taught one year of WORLD GEOGRAPHY to 6th graders. 5 of those years I also taught at least one READING ENRICHMENT class. Now, I am a stay at home mom working only part time doing Title 1 tutoring. I currently tutor students from grade 1-9 in Reading and Math near Tampa Florida.
MY TEACHING STYLE
My middle school career was spent at one school with a diverse population. Nearly 70% at risk students. 46% African American, 42% white, and remaining population consisted mostly ELL students. I believe that students learn best though receving information in several forms. A typical class day for me would include: 1. Sponge or warm up activity 2. Information gathering- through text, PowerPoint, or some other information source. 3. Completing an activity to futher understanding of the content learned. 4. Assessment- sometimes 3 and 4 are combined. I believe that ALL KIDS CAN LEARN!
