Did you see Henry VIII Assembly/Class Play? This is one of my favourites - full of great songs and alot of humour - started me off on my writing career when one of the audience came up to me after the children had performed it and said 'Where did you get the script? ...... In answer to your question, first play is 6 pages (A4) plus quiz of 26 questions; second is 4 pages, quiz of 33, third is 4 pages quiz of 20; fourth is 2.5 pages quiz of 20, and last one is 2.5 quiz of 20. As with the majority of my class plays, I wrote this for cast of 30 but numbers are easily adjustable up or down. In the case of this script, there is a Narrator plus 8 named characters, the rest being Child 1 - 21 so the latter can easily have lines doubled, trebled if necessary. Hope that helps. Sue

I should request payment of performance rights - I leave this to the customer on my own website - but I am very aware of teachers' personal budgets so I do not insist on them. The price of the script is really intended as a once off. I would not, for example, expect a teacher to pass his/her copy onto someone else. These are 8 very short 'synopsis' type plays/discussions, led by 6 speakers, using modern language. So in answer to your question, it is not original text, very much my adaptation of - but each script is very brief - please don't expect 8 equivalent sized plays! Hi My Ancient Greek Guided Readers are definitely beyond 1st graders. I have just written an Olympic script for younger children - this is a class play and covers past Olympic hosts (list of countries) plus a quick run through all the current sports - so in answer to your question, sorry, not actually on the First Olympics. I do make a comparison between Ancient and Modern but this is in my scripts for older children. Hi Sarah The actual reading text for this assembly/class play is very brief - it can be read through in about five minutes. It is really there to introduce the carols - of which there are 13! So, obviously depending on how many verses sung from each carol, the time varies greatly from around 15 minutes to however long it takes to sing all of the verses of all the carols - should you wish! I sell the guided reading play scripts in 5 component parts as I can cover the whole subject that way, dividing it between 5 groups of 6 children (so in a class of 30 each child has a speaking role). You just happen to be in luck with this particular set. It started off as just one script on The Civil War and this is available off my website www.plays-r-ussell.com for $5.11 To help you find it, you have to do the following: click on UK History Assemblies & G.R. on the first page, left hand panel; then click on Guided Reading Play scripts KSII; then click on the 2nd page of pictures for The American Civil War Guided Reading Play scripts. You will see it sold as $13.84 but this is hardcopy. For download, click on the picture which takes you to the extract page, and scroll down to the bottom where you will find the download box - click on this, add it to your shopping basket and then you will see the price comes up as $5.11 Hope this is helpful. TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I taught in the U.K. for 15 years - temporary and permanent positions plus supply/substitute teaching. I taught all year groups at primary/elementary level and have done some substitute teaching since arriving in the USA. My degree was in History so I always particularly enjoyed teaching this subject, and creating class plays/assemblies around what I was teaching in the classroom - whether it be Ancient Egyptians or King Henry VIII and his Six Wives!

My teaching style has been a mixture of whole class teaching, and small group teaching, focusing on the positive! I am a great believer in teaching through 'role play' which is what my plays and group readers are about!I feel passionately about this mode of teaching. HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT
I have a BA Honors Degree in History - from Exeter University; a PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education) - from Hull University; and a Counselling Certificate.
MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY
I have 10 O'Levels, 3 A'Levels, a degree in History and a PGCE, plus counselling certificate. I went into teaching after dipping into a number of other 'fields' - one of the most enjoyable being working for a wildlife conservation society (as membership secretary)based in London Zoo.
ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
I taught for 15 years in the UK, then took up writing following the performance of one of my class plays (Henry VIII and his six wives)which was a massive hit with children and adults alike. This (plus comments like "You're in the wrong job - go work for the BBC!)gave me the confidence to sit down and write - plays based on the curriculum, starting with coverage of the history/social studies curriculum and moving onto other subjects such as science, geography and PSHCE. I am now living in the United States where I do the occasional day substitute teaching but most of my time I am writing - building up the collection of plays and group readers that are available off my website www.plays-r-ussell.com I see my plays as mainly performance pieces but I write them 'as a teacher, for teachers' so that they are easy to deliver, with minimum stress! I recognise that some teachers enjoy drama/class performance more than others, but I would defy anyone not to enjoy the 'music suggestions'! These are deliberately chosen to 'lift' the performance - they are rocks songs familiar to children and adults alike and in my experience they definitely add to the enjoyment of the experience! In addition to these class plays, I have written an extensive collection of 'Group Readers' which are intended for smaller groups, of 6 children; these come in sets of 5 'mini plays' which have quizzes attached and are, I think a great classroom resource.
