I purchased "What's in a name?" glyph. Could I (or you) edit it so that the ages could be extended to 11 years old? Sometimes I have a child in the fifth grade who has been retained and is already 11. I'd love to be able to customize it to my class' needs.

I was looking at your weekly word wizard set and really like the way it hits the third grade skills for the beginning of the year. Can you share some details of the strength of growth from sets one through four? I was hoping there was a preview from each of the sets because I want to make sure the work is strenous enough for the growth that normally occurs throughout the year. Could you provide some insight into the differences between the four sets in terms of the growth of skills? Thanks!

Hi there,
The thumbnails give you an idea of each set, but the format and the way the questions are asked is consistent through the entire 4 sets. They are more difficult for the kids in the beginning of the year simply because they don't often know all of those skills as they start the year. Then as they learn each skill it gets a bit easier for them to complete each set independently. They're really meant to help you hit each skill each week so that they remain fresh for the kids. So in essence, I suppose the questions don't get harder throughout the year (as they do in the math set) However, I did recently make a new set for 2nd grade that are CCSS aligned where the questions do increase in difficulty (mostly in the way they are posed to the kids) and I'm planning on making a set like that for 3rd over the summer. You can give set 4 a try with your kids and see how they do with it in regards to the difficulty level. I hope that that helps!

A decameter is 10 meters, decimeter is 1/10th of a meter. So it is supposed to be decameter for this (in either case though, the answer would still be false)

I'm looking for a product that I think I saw on your blog. It was about common types of information that students should know (I remember 9 innings in a baseball game specifically!) Not sure if you would be interested in adding a Student Data sheet but my students have been tracking which questions they get right and wrong each week. Then, they refer to the standard list you have included to see what they are having trouble with. So if they notice that they have missed # 10 several times they can see that they need to work on capitalizing proper nouns.

Yes, I am looking for something that the students can do every day. I am looking for a language arts self start type of activity. The one that I currently have is rather boring and I like the layout of your weekly work. Can the materials that you offer be combined into one big book for daily work? I just don't want the activities to overlap as far as the questions go. It would be fabulous if you had something like this!

We did week 12 earlier this week, and I noticed a type in box 12: "giraffes" is misspelled. Everything else so far is PERFECT, so I figured you'd want to know so you can fix it.

This is based on National CCSS, which to my knowledge is what Florida is using as well, they just named the standards slightly different due to a legislative issue that actually mandates how the standards need to be named. I'm not sure I understand the second part of your question. Do you need something that has a page for every day instead of one page per week?

Hi there, It sounds like my ccss math assessment pack would work for math. I just updated it to include 3 assessments, that way you could give one at the start, one as practice and one at the end. They're also differentiated a bit. As for reading, my ccss pack right now only has one assessment per standard, but you could really use the same one for pre and post and in that one some of the assessments use your own literature, so you could switch that out. Does that help?

I love the repetition of skills; I can see the children learning new things every day! (Right now we're on our third or fourth day writing a plural of a word ending with f - today was knife - and the kids knew to write knives!)
I found a typo today on week twelve: in box 12, giraffes is misspelled. (But now I know that a group of them is called a tower, which I never knew before!) Everything else so far has been perfect, so I thought you'd probably want to fix it. :)

I bought your Unit on Last Day Blues and am having some trouble. On only some of the pages the font comes out weird with letters spaced way apart, missing letters or letters on top of each other. I haven't had this trouble with other downloads. Do you have any idea how I could fix this?

I just downloaded your revise packet. I noticed on the standards checklist for each student that the Number Base Ten standards are listed twice and the Measurement/Data ones are not on the sheet. Was there a second sheet I missed (totally possible)? Also, on the first assessment quiz for measurement and data you have two number 9s :) Thank you so much for this work, I can't wait to use it!

I've been teaching for 17 years. I started out as a 5th grade drop-out prevention teacher and I am currently teaching 2nd grade gifted students. In between, I also taught 3rd and 4th grade, was the Drop-out prevention resource specialist, and taught writing as a special. I value each of my different experiences so much because they have really given me a unique perspective of the needs of so many different teachers and students.
MY TEACHING STYLE
I have found that meeting the needs of struggling students and advanced students really require some of the same things. Hands-on, engaging lessons that motivate and challenge without causing frustration. I think every classroom presents unique challenges and great teachers find ways to bring learning to life in the the way that best meets the needs of their students. For that reason, I consider myself an eclectic; I'll use whatever works!
