I use PowerPoint to create all of my items. You insert it as a picture for the background. Then you can layer other items on top. Do you plan an creating worksheets for your classroom? I just printed the I Can Solve Word Problems posters. The poster "Draw A Picture" keeps printing a black rectangle above the student's head to the right of the e at the end of picture. Any ideas to remove it? Thanks so much!

Sure! When you place the frame on your slide, click on the frame. Then go to format. You can then choose recolor. Options for colors will pop up. It is on the upper left side of the top toolbar if you are using the latest version of PowerPoint.

Ashley it is a zip file so make sure you unzip that first. Then in Word you would click Insert Picture and it will pull up your files. Click on the border you would like and it should insert it into your document.

I think the Halloween-Nouns product is great and I think my students will really enjoy it. I guess this is more of a wondering. The students will be able to sort by color of the card border instead of focusing on the actual word. (I have not tried printing in grayscale yet so this may not be an issue if it is not printed in color.) This may make it more of a self-checking activity so if it is more of a practice instead of an assessment that might be your intention. I also love that you extend the activity by asking the students to writing sentences at the bottom of the recording sheet.

Thank you for your response:) I created this for practice with nouns. I did consider this to be a self-checking activity since I will be working with Guided groups during this time. I have found that many of my students are rushing through centers and doing them incorrectly. I think they will focus on the words because they are fun and have to do with Halloween:) I am sure it will print fine in greyscale if you want it to be more of a challenge. Mahalo for your insight.

Hi, the tropical LA poster 1RL.2 states, I can tell the message or moral of a story. In the chevron LA poster 1RL.2 states, I can retell a story that I have heard or read. I'm very familiar with the Chevron version, but not the one stated on the tropical poster. These are the preview pictures that I'm looking at. I don't want to buy the tropical package and find out, I have the incorrect standards.

eburk re: Common Core Posters-First Grade Language Arts
Why is the phrasing of the standards in this packet slightly different than the first grade tropical package? (1.RL.1 - 1.RL.2 )I was going to purchase the tropical package but the phrasing is different. If you used the same phrasing as you have for this package that would be great.

Surfin' Through Second (TpT Seller)
All of the phrasing should be the same for the topical, chevron and plain. I just checked and I did not see a difference.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching for 20 years, with the past 15 years in 2nd grade. I have worked with a diverse population of learners over the years, and have taught in 4 different states. My teaching adventures have landed me on a small island in the pacific:)

My activites reflect my teaching style. I love to integrate themes throughout the year and do as much hands on learning as possible. Literacy and math centers along with guided reading groups are important components of my classroom.
