Hi! I have purchased three of your packets and have enjoyed implementing them in my class this year. As for the narrative packet, will they be writing three stories? I know they choose their small moment first. Do they only choose one of the three ideas they sketched to write about? I guess I am confused as to why there are three pages for writing when they are only choosing to write about one small moment. Thanks!!!

Thanks for your question! The "draw-it-out" page is actually meant to help your students stretch out ONE small moment. They draw their small moment in the middle box and then they draw what happened before that small moment and what happened after their small moment. It helps your students visualize the beginning, middle (their small moment) and ending of their story before they begin to "stretch-it-out"

Each of my writing prompts in this bundle is specifically aligned to one of the 3 writing standards for primary grades (Narrative, Informative, & Opinion). There are also other activities/games included that align with different language common core standards. The school I work at is solely a Common Core school, so everything I make/do is directly aligned! However, on each page, I do not explicitly state the standard - even though it becomes obvious when reading the prompt.

I am so glad the kids are loving it! When we start the how-to portion, I usually make a circle map on the board of how-to ideas and I model with my teacher example (I use a frog). We come up with a bunch (how to take care of... how to feed... how to find a... how to save the... how to train a...) and then the students can choose whichever one they like based on their animal. Each year, I still get 1 or 2 students who will come up with one I haven't heard before and they turn out so cute!

Thank you Mary! I have my kids create a whole new book - that's why it takes so long! We edit and revise their "sloppy copies" like crazy, so I find it works better for us to re-create.
It also lets me see who is able to copy from an edited draft and create a published piece.

I purchased the Pers. Narr Pkt (small moments) but since it was my first EVER purchase....did I do something wrong? I have not explanation of how to use each of your cutesy designed pages.--no way to use What is a small moment? no way to use Stretch it out! Where is the outline for how to use these pages. Thank you for your question! On page 3, I explain how to use the "small moment maps" and I print out one for each child to complete. Next, on page 6, I briefly explain how I use each page in the pack. Each student gets their own pages to complete by themselves and I conference with them throughout the process. I love that idea! A fiction/fantasy story writing pack is on my list of things to do! I chose personal narratives first, but over the summer I would love to look into more about writing fiction/fantasies :)

Unfortunately, I do not have a day-by-day planner for my narratives unit. On the first few pages, I do have a layout of how I follow the unit in my classroom though. I chose not to do a day-by-day because depending on the narrative prompt, some parts take longer than others. I hope that helps!

Sorry for the confusion - there are 4 different game boards per skill. So for digraphs there are 4 different game boards as well as a blank one for students to fill in their own words. Same for long vowels, short vowels, and blends. I hope that answers your question!

Hi Maureen! I also think they are unhealthy choices. I put some tricky ones in there because I thought they were good discussion points! I remember a student last year clarified that her mom only made veggie burgers and that they were healthy so when she pulled the card she would consider it a healthy choice!

Not at all - it is an easy, quick craft! There is 1 page for the head, 1 for the body, and a page of ties (5/per page) so I just copy a few different colors and let the students choose.

Hi scunning! I don't have a day-by-day planner for the Opinion unit because I have always taught opinion writing through prompts and mini-lessons and I have done it differently each year. I can tell you that I do basically follow along with the packet. Anchor charts to introduce > fact/opinion sort > would you rather? > prompts > persuasive letters. Adding a day-by-day planner is a great suggestion though! When I start our opinion writing this Spring, I will try to keep track of how I laid it out and update the pack. Thanks again!

I am so excited to use the Personal Narrative unit! Is there any way you could change the revision and editing checklists for me? Instead of "Add ellipses" and "Add words with ALL CAPS" I would rather include "Add dialogue" and "Add feeling words." I really want to use those checklists but don't have time to try to remake them.
