I worry a bit about the wooden panel showing diagonal symmetry. It may be a square, but it looks like a rectangle. If so, it doesn't have a line of symmetry when folded over. Otherwise I love it and will use it in my next lesson. Thanks for making it free!

This worked out perfect for our literacy night sight word bingo. I only wish I could add clipart to the boards to jazz them up a bit. We threw some stickers on. I looked around for free bingo sheet makers online and couldn't find what I needed. Considering other programs cost around $30 this was a great investment.

Thanks for all your work on this. It's a great intro to symmetry and I am looking forward to using it. My one suggestion is that I find that there is a lot of animation. Perhaps some of the words coming in can just "appear" as oppose to being "typed in". If kids aren't exposed to many PPT presentations the excellent content may get lost as they focus on the animations.

I think this is a creative and well-thought out powerpoint, but I do have a couple of constructive comments as well. The ladybug may indeed have horizontal symmetry however, the placement of the ladybug does not align symmetrically with the arrow that is seen going through it. I teach my students that you should be able to completely fold the object in half and have both sides align in order for an object to be symmetrical. This picture may be confusing to students because the head appears only on the top portion of the line.

I appreciate the feedback and will certainly consider correcting that issue. If you are PowerPoint saavy, you should be able to correct it yourself by opening the presentation through PowerPoint (rather than double-clicking on it) and navigating to the slide with the ladybug. :-) Sooz

I could not download this program successfully. Will a floppy disk hold all of this program? And will it be successfull from a Dell computer to an EMac computer when the program is on a floppy disk?

This is a PowerPoint file, so it should work on any computer, Mac or PC, which has Microsoft PowerPoint 2003 or higher installed on it. I have not tested it on Microsoft PowerPoint 2000 or before.
As for size, it is 1.23 MB, so it is a little too big for a single sided 1 MB floppy disk, but it should fit on a 1.44 MB double-density floppy disk! Of course it would fit easily on a CD or on a Zip disk. I hope this helps!

Hello Susan!! I have a macbook pro and I absolutely love this powerpoint but I need to add a few things to it to make it relevant to what we are learning in class. I am unable to edit it, so I was wondering if there was a way I could download it as an editable file or possibly email it to me? I tried opening it as a powerpoint like you suggested instead of double clicking it in one of the comments, but it wont let me edit it. Thank you so much!

Hmmm. Once you open it through PowerPoint, Try immediately doing a Save-As and give it a new name (and save it as type PPT or PPTX not PPS)
Then close out and open the newly named file by double-clicking. I hope this helps. If not, please let me know. :)

I downloaded the beginning sounds powerpoint and most don't work. For example on the A-E game... only A and B work correctly. On C, D, and E slides if you hit the correct picture it does not move or make any noise. Same for the other PPTs I purchased. 2-3 of the letters work, but the rest don't. Do you know what the problem might be?

Hi Susan,
The area to type in the wordlist for 3 x 3 bingo is password protected. If I try to type over any of the 16 words already there it says its password protected and I have tried other cells but anywhere I try to type it says its password protected.

Aaron - the area where you type in your 28 terms should not be protected. Everything else is, so that the template is not accidentally messed up, but you should be able to type over those 28 terms on sheet 1. Once you type over those terms, the cards on sheets 2 and 3 will change to contain your terms nstead of the examples. Please let me know if this does not make sense!

I assume you are refering to the PowerPoint Quick Reference sheet. I actually used one that was given to me at my district - it was a Microsoft thing, i believe. I believe it would be a copyright violation for me to scan it for you, but there are similar things available online. For example: http://web.bsu.edu/ucspubs/pdf/quickguides/powerpoint2003.pdf might be too much information, but you could create a 1 page version for your kiddos with just the info they need. This one: http://library.med.utah.edu/ed/eduservices/handouts/PowerPoint_Web/PPT2003_basic_tutorial.pdf is 8 pages long and is pretty good for basic powerpoint skills. Does this help?

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I began my career teaching Biology and Physical Science in High School. I then went on to teach Integrated Curriculum at a Science/Technology Magnet Middle School. In 1999, I moved into the Elementary arena and taught 5th grade science and K-5 Tech Apps. Now I am a Technology Integration Coach.
MY TEACHING STYLE
I teach adults now so my techniques are somewhat different than when I was teaching kids. With adults my goal is always to simplify as much as possible without making the teacher feel foolish. My attitude is - this is something I am good at, and I want to make you better at it. How silly would it be if I went to dance lessons and the dance instructor made me feel stupid while teaching me? However, I still develop products for children, and when it comes to kids I am basically a constructivist.
HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT
My district nominated me for Instructional Technology Specialist of the Year for the Texas Computer Educator Association. Although I did not win, it was a great honor. :) I have also been awarded a "Hero" award with my district, which is a Technology Employee award. One of my favorite honors is that the teachers I worked with years ago still talk about me and how much I was able to help them, even though I was moved from that campus many years ago.
MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY
I attended public schools in Texas and graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1985. I attended Baylor University where I earned my Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education. I later added certifications for Elementary Comprehensive, K-12 Technology Applications, and Master Technology Teacher. I am currently working on my Master's degree in Instructional Technology.
ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
I am married, have 1 beautiful adopted son, and the proud "mama" of 2 dogs and 2 fish tanks. When I am not teaching or using the computer to create things, I love to read, sing, and spoil my nieces.
