My Teaching Experience

I have taught in the special education and remedial reading field in upstate New York for 18 years. In the past six years, I have been the key creator and coordinator of a high school learning center. The learning center has proved to be the school's answer to New York State's mandated Academic Intervention Services (AIS) for high school students. It not only houses resource 9-12 but also remediation for Regents and RCT exams as well as homework or project assistance on a drop-in basis. The high school houses approximately 650 students grades 9-12.

My Teaching Style

I am a multi-sensory learner, thus a multi-sensory teacher. I adapt lessons to fit individuals or small groups of students. My teaching style varies according to whom I am assigned. Think alouds paired with visual examples are my preferred style of getting "messages" to my students. I "advertise" and promote the use of study guides that are literacy-based with content area teachers to use when remediating students in the learning center as well as in their classrooms. Many ideas have been shared!

I cannot choose just one or even a few shining teaching moments. I love being a teacher! I have been blessed with great students. They make the shining moments, I just sit back and watch to see which light bulb needs replacing or a little adjustment!
