Just wanted some clarification on The Rosetta Stone activity - the students use the English translation with the Greek to translate the "papyrus scroll?" This is exactly the type of actiity I would like to use in my Gifted 6th grade inclusion class...even if they need to work on it at home. I am thinking they could work in groups in the class. About how long did it take your students? Thanks!

Sorry, this was not forwarded to my personal email. I didn't even know about it until today. I hope you can still use the information. Since you are working with gifted students, let them figure it out. Some will create a key so they only have to translate each glyph once. Others will translate each glyph twice. It took my special education students about four hours to complete. The regular education high school students I used it with only about 1 1/2 - 2 hours. My guess is that your students should be able to complete it in aobut 1 1/2 hours.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Taught special education students (LD) since 1993 Taught inclusion classes for all but one of those years. Taught in grades 2-8, 10 and 11

MY TEACHING STYLE

Since I have taught mostly jr. high and middle school settings, I prefer a real-world or simulation approach. Because I have to get my students ready for a more traditional high school, I also teach them how to take notes from book and lecture.

When a student looked and me finally realizing that all the talking teachers do during class relates to the homework and the tests.

1988-Graduated from Frankenmuth High School with honors 1992-Graduated from University of Maine @ Farmington with a BS in special education 1999-Graduated from Saginaw Valley State University with a MAT in secondary education 2000- present - continue to attend workshops relating to special education and any subject area I happen to be team-teaching that particular year
