I'm curious, exactly how do you use the ELA & Math CC questions in the classroom? Do you use more than one a day? Do you project them on a screen for the whole class to see? Do you ask them orally? Hi there! All of the ways you mentioned would work great. I have my cards cut apart and placed in a jar. During small moments I will pull out a card. I will either call on individuals or the class as a whole. You could easily use them as journal prompts and print one for each student, they could paste it into a journal and work through the problem. Hope this helps!

Good morning! I am a first grade teacher, formerly PK teacher. I just finished my masters in May (yea!) with a degree in Mind, Brain and Education – a subfield of education. The first program was started at Harvard by Howard Gardner and Kurt Fisher (if you haven’t read any of Kurt Fisher’s work on Skill Theory and you are interested in the cognitive processes involved in learning, you must read his work!)
Cut to the chase. When I moved up from PK to 1st I was shocked by my students’ lack of number sense. I spent an entire year and all last summer trying to figure out what was missing. In Nov I attended a workshop that on number sense. When I heard the presentation I recognized all the “big” names of the research I had been investigating. The workshop was a training session for an iPad app (Native Numbers). It seemed like a valid, robust app, but I am a skeptic and had to know: would this really work.
I am here to tell you that with the first skill set I saw every cognitive model of learning embedded in this app. I also realized that this app is more than a learning tool; it has built in formative and summative assessment as it is adaptive and levels up and down based on student performance and leads to mastery.
Now I am on a “mission” – everything we read tells us our students are lacking number sense. I believe this app is a fabulous tool to remediate those deficits. I have no vested interest in this app except that I am one of those people that has to solve problems and when I think I have found possible answers, I have to share that with others. Our kids are too important not to share---which is why I love reading blogs! I am asking for teachers to simply read the research and then try out the app and give me feedback---or give the feedback yourself to the developers. I am that convinced. I am not a salesman and I feel quite strange in this new role I have taken upon myself…but I have nothing to lose, or gain, except knowing that maybe we can have an enormous impact on our students!

I am having a hard time printing out the summer writing send home packet-- I have downloaded it three times, thinking it may have been a funky download, but when I go to print it, Adobe Reader says "the document can not be printed" and "there were no pages selected to print"
I've tried printing it on several different printers, too, and the same things happen. It's only with this file though-- I also just bought a short vowel review packet you made and that printed fine.
If you have any insight or suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

I recently bought Nonsense words fluency guided reading RTI activities. Gotta say I love and so do my kids. I was wondering if you could fix a small error I found on the nonsense word cards where you decode individual phonemes and blend them back together? The card has h e k then the arrow hak. Thank you so much, again....love to use this with the kiddos!!!!

Hi! I downloaded this awesome super improvers wall. I just printed it out and was getting it ready to laminate, and I noticed that the "genius", "team leader", and "mvk" pages have a problem with their clip art. It doesn't show on the file at all, but it prints out weird. Like images on top of one another. Have you heard this before?
***Update*** I figured it out. In case anyone ever has a similar problem (not on a Mac), they have to change the print quality to "best" rather than "normal". I switched that, and it worked!

If using a Mac make sure you open using Adobe. You could also try an alternate computer. Since the file is working in not sure of what else it could be.

Hi there! At this time there I don't have a master list in the packet. For my classroom, I have the list of words on a post-it note and then keep that with each set. :)

Do you have a package that had more? I'm not a teacher... I'm a mommy. One of my twin daughters is really struggling in this area and so I'm on the hunt to get her some additional material that we can work on at home. It's not for lack of effort, she just hasn't had that "lightbulb" moment yet and from the looks of your activities here, this just might be what she needs :) thank you! Kristi
