I have been privileged to teach just about every K-8 grade level during the course of my 15 year career. I have also tutored students in many of the others, including high school and college levels.
One of my students used to tell her friends outside of my class that her teacher was "strict, but good." I believe in holding students to high, but attainable, standards and in holding them accountable for their behavior as well as for the quality of their work. I also teach my current middle school students to be accountable for their own learning by providing resources for them to use in class, at home and online to aid and extend the learning process. I try to maintain a relaxed, but orderly, classroom where students are able to collaborate and try out different ideas to help them learn.
I was a NC Teaching Fellow at UNC-Chapel Hill and coached a winning 4th and 5th grade MathCounts team.
I earned my AB Ed in Elementary (K-6) with a mathematics concentration from UNC-Chapel Hill. I also have earned many continuing ed hours learning Spanish at Blue Ridge Community College. I hope to earn my masters, become nationally certified and finally become fluent in Spanish in the next few years.
I have been married to my high school sweetheart for almost 18 years and have two wonderful boys who keep me busy. In our "spare" time :) my husband and I coach the middle school basketball teams at my small K-8 charter school. I have enjoyed coaching my school's MathCounts team since I was "promoted" to middle school. I also like to read, run, create materials for my students to use, and be creative through scrapbooking and card making.
