I am in my 9th year of teaching. Most of my teaching experience has been in 5th grade, but I taught 4th grade for two years and looped with those classes. I have a masters in Curriculum and Instruction in Reading and received National Boards Certification in Middle Childhood. Being an elementary teacher, I teach all subject areas and think about ways to engage children in content through collaboration and discussion.
I teach through reader's and writer's workshops. I teach in small groups as much as possible in reading and math. I often develop activities that allow students to work in partners or small groups to encourage discussion and allow them to learn from one another. The importance of vocabulary instruction is also embedded in my teaching.
