Hi Barb, thanks for bringing this to my attention. I have uploaded a corrected version and done some additional revisions (including 2 options for the "Inferencing" step--also could be called "Interpreting") and I added numbers to each of the questions on the question sorting cards so that it's easier to talk to students about the specific questions when you are sorting and discussing them as a class. I was able to download easily, but on pages 3-14 the letters run into each other and overlap making it difficult to read the word. I tried to change the paper size to legal, but that didn't help. Do you know how I can fix this? Hopefully there is an easy fix. Thank you.

Have you tried to re-download? Sometimes the document doesn't load properly in Adobe. I am thinking this is the case if you are able to see some pages and not others. I'm not sure how I can fix this on my end. The document was made in Microsoft word and was downloaded as a PDF. I think if you make sure your version of Adobe is updated, it should work. If downloading it again does not work, I would try on another computer.

Hi Nichole. Great question. The House Plan themed cards are more challenging, especially if students do not simplify before they multiply the numbers (but I tried to design them where they were able to simplify most of them before multiplying). The cupcake problems are for the most part more straightforward. Both preview downloads have the problems/answer key included so that you can see the kind of math students will be doing. The product is in a zip file. When you hit download, hit save, then the zip file should come up in your download window. You then have to open that and it opens like a folder. Hi Katie, I have not created answer keys for the word searches. If you look under the title of each puzzle, it should say how many words are in the puzzle. If you have the yellow words their way sort book, that's where the lists came from. Hope this helps! Thanks!

Hi Sara, this is the first year I have used this bulletin board and for me, it is not necessary to fill in all the parts for each time period. I'm sure you focus on a few of the aspects during your unit (like culture and maybe geography) and not others. During different time periods, different themes might be considered more important. I'm not sure which themes you are talking about specifically. But, if you take democratic ideals for example, aspects of our constitution came from the Iroquois Constitution. You might not talk about this until your government unit, and can fill it in later. Hope this helps!

Hi, I am not sure if others have had the same problem but the letters in the word search part are kind of hard to make out. The directions for the search are very clear, but the actual search is not. I'm not sure if it is the font or what. I've tried a couple things to see if I could make it better, but I can't. Any suggestions?

Hi, the word search is a snipped image from the word search program I used, so it's not possible for you to change the font or look of them. The image looks lighter on the computer, but if you print them off, they should be dark enough for student use. I am using this exact file in my classroom and students do not have trouble seeing the word searches clear enough to find the words. If I'm misunderstanding your issue, please let me know and I will see what I can do. Thanks for your purchase!

Are you using the Within Word Pattern Spellers companions volume (it's a yellow book)? I used the second edition word lists to create the word searches. The actual Words Their Way book may have the lists more combined. I did not include the word lists in the product because I felt that was against copyright and that these word searches are meant to go along with the companion book's word lists. Sounds great. I am following you on pinterest now. You have some great ideas. I teach 4th grade language arts and social studies right now but since I teach GT, they are more on a fifth grade level. We can certainly exchange ideas!

I tried downloading the reading comprehension thinkmark foldable, and it seems that all of the text is blurred out with black rectangles. I'm downloading it as a PDF on my Mac, which I usually have no problem doing. Is there something else I should be doing in order to have it download correctly?

Hmmm...I just downloaded the foldable from the site and it came up correctly for me. I think it must be your computer. It's been downloaded a few times and no one else has commented that it didn't come through. Hope you get it to work...maybe just trying again to download because sometimes Acrobat has issues.

I bought what I thought was two different products from you. One was test questions about customary/metric measurement, and the other was titled the same but added questions 2 (which I thought was a different set of questions based on your product description.) Is there something I don't understand about this or is this as misleading as it seems. I feel like I paid for the same product twice--at least that is how it downloaded for me.

Thank you for your question. I just downloaded and double checked the products you mentioned. If you look closely, the problems are actually different. In need of one set of questions to teach from and one set of questions to allow students more practice, I created similar questions with different numbers so that students could apply what we discussed while they were learning how to answer measurement questions. Please let me know if you still feel you were misled or if yours did not download as the two different sets of questions.

Why did you leave out the 1954 Supreme Court decision, Hernandez vs Texas, one of the most historical civil rights cases in the US? It not only made Mexican Americans equal to whites it also made history when the Supreme Court justices asked Gus Garcia, the attorney, to present 16 minutes longer than anyone has ever been able to present before a Supreme Court. I apologize if this offended you. I based the timeline off of the PBS website mentioned in the product. I teach 4th graders and therefore have this unit focused on Civil Rights for African Americans so that we can build on other American Injustices later in the year and next year. You are welcome to include any events you know of that are not included in my packet for your own students.

This is a zip file, which means you have to download the zip file and then it has quite a few documents within that file. Are you able to download the zip file and then still having trouble? It does sound like a block on your end. Let me know if you aren't able to get it, and I can try emailing all of the documents to you.

There are errors on at least 5 of the pages that I could see when I just quickly looked. For ex. the polygo game is on 2 pages, and the title is on 2 lines; the word cards break words in half to fit on the next line; and the concept charts are strangely cut in the middle. I will try to download and print it at home to see if it makes a difference. I am thinking maybe some fonts that you used are not on my school PC making the spacing odd. What fonts did you use?

If you will email me at tamaralynn_@hotmail.com, I can send you these files in pdf...I like to leave them in word docs so that teachers can easily make any changes they want, but I can get you the PDF's so the formatting is not an issue for you. They are correct on my computer, so I think it is a font support issue for you. Could you highlight the fonts and just change them to something else? Sorry for the hassle!

Hmmm...The vocabulary cards print correctly from my file. I think you just mean the 1st sheet--give one get one in the vocabulary packet. I will re-upload that. Let me know if you need a different version of the vocabulary cards also.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I am in my 8th year of teaching. Most of my teaching experience has been in 5th grade, but I taught 4th grade for two years and looped with those classes. I have a masters in Curriculum and Instruction in Reading and received National Boards Certification in Middle Childhood. Being an elementary teacher, I teach all subject areas and think about ways to engage children in content through collaboration and discussion.
MY TEACHING STYLE
I teach through reader's and writer's workshops. I teach in small groups as much as possible in reading and math. I often develop activities that allow students to work in partners or small groups to encourage discussion and allow them to learn from one another. The importance of vocabulary instruction is also embedded in my teaching.
