Kevin LaMastra has over 18 years experience teaching World Languages, ESL and teacher development, in both public schools and at the university level. He was twice elected Union County Teacher of the Year and has coordinated three grant winning projects recognized by the NJEA / Hipp Foundation for Educational Excellence.
Kevin is the founder of “Friends Beyond Borders,†a not for profit educational organization that provides teachers with professional development experiences in the developing world where they gain first hand experiences with globalization, human rights and critical, global education issues. Over 90 teachers from across the U.S. have traveled with Kevin to the Dominican Republic and Haiti. Many have returned to coordinate their own classroom projects inspired by the experience.
Social justice oriented teachers in all subject areas are invited to join our project. Travel with us this summer. Visit: www.friendsbeyondborders.net
Kevin has a strong interest in social justice and global education issues. He has written for “Rethinking Schools†and was a member of their teachers’ delegation to investigate global migration and human rights on the U.S/Mexican border. This collaboration between socially engaged teachers from across the United States resulted in the publication of “ The Line Between US: Teaching About the Border and Mexican Immigration.â€
Any money earned on TPT will be used to support the Friends Beyond Borders Project. www.friendsbeyondborders.net
