I loved this unit! It made Lucy Calkin's unit so easy to teach and my students wrote amazing literary essays! There were several pages that when I printed them the font was messed up. My husband fixed the problem for me...I needed to download the fonts that the unit was written in.

From what I can see, this unit looks exactly like the Oakland Schools Atlas Rubicon FREE units that are adapted from Lucy Calkins. How exactly are your units supplementing the Oakland units that are available online for FREE?

Thank you for your question! I have looked at and even used some of the units from Oakland in my own classroom, and they are very good! In the unit I created from my interpretation of Lucy includes a parent letter, anchor charts, partnership planning sheets, a few student worksheets, reading logs, goal setting sheets. It is filling in a lot more gaps than what Oakland and MAISA have produced. Their units are great and if you use those I think that they are an amazing FREE resource! Thanks again for your question!

We use the notebook labels for the students to put in their writing journals and then take notes and brainstorm ideas through out the mini lessons. They are just on how many I could fit on a page. I found it is a better use of time if they can paste it in and then we have more time to talk about the anchor chart rather than waiting for everyone to finish copying them down. Does that help?

Calkins is not trying to make sure her lessons fit with Common Core. She has designed her e-book curricular for reading and writing. She's also made the Pathways book. Are your units pushing that rigor? I notice unit 1 is almost exactly like her reading units of study book. I just want to make sure that rigor and high expectation are there.

Procedural Writing is the "Nonfiction" writing unit...you will find the all about and how to in there. The authors as mentors has also been created as writing for readers. Realistic fiction is personal narrative....I know that we will be coming up with a Cross-Genre unit and informational about science.

As far as I know, if you have Promethean Inspire, you can import SMART Notebook files and then save them as .flipchart files. SMART to Promethean conversion
Or
Smart Notebook lessons are easily converted to Flipcharts for use with Promethean software and Activboard.
Open Inspire
Click on file > import > Smart Notebook
Browse your computer for the file and double click it. Inspire will convert it into a flipchart.
Should be as easy as pie!!! If you run into any problems let me know. Thanks for your question!
