Sorry my question was submitted twice. I was just wondering if you use the Workshop Math with your math curriculum and which one do you use? Also, can you explain a little more about whole group Mondays and what you do. Do you introduce the concepts that are going to be taught for the week?

Terri Thornton  (TpT Seller)
Currently, I do not use a curriculum, but I have in the past. When I did use the curriculum, I somehow still managed to review skills and teach what my pacing guide recommended. At first, I was skeptical on how this would work. But, once I implemented and started doing it, it seemed to work out just fine. I had so many questions when I first started, but the best way to get the answers is just try it out. It took me at least one entire school year to figure out how to make it work. On Monday, we go over my parent letter/standard overview with the kids. This is included in the file. It's basically a preview of the standards we will be doing that week. We also reviewed our calendar and wrote our homework down for the week. Those three things take up most of the time. I hope this has answered some of your questions. I wish I could give you all the answers, but it's hard when I'm not sure what your curriculum/pacing guide looks like. My first year, I just started off with teaching my curriculum from the math book. The following year is when I started planning based on my assessments. BTW- when we used a curriculum set, it was Math Expressions.

I love this! I found you on Pinterest. Are the center activities things they do in one day? For example do you plan a 15 minute center for each of the four days or are they working on the same activity for the entire week? Does that make sense? Also, you said that your calendar is something they work on the entire week. Do you have students who finish a center or station early and do you have something they do if they finish?
June 14, 2013 Report inappropriate comment

Terri Thornton  (TpT Seller)
The centers usually last about 15 minutes so they are doing a different one each day. Therefore, you would need at least 3 per week since Mondays and Fridays are whole group days. Yes, I do have students who finish early. I usually have them work on their journal and the we have a standards checklist that they complete for each unit. Sometimes we also do choice boards. Just a variety of activities that are ready, available, and correlate to what we are learning. I hope this makes sense :)

The process standards say "I am" because these are standards the students should be doing WHILE they are learning. The actual standards (Numbers & operations, data, geometry) are "I Can." ncottone14 re: Sub Tub: everything your sub needs
Hi Terri! I love your sub tub idea! Before I purchase it I figure I'll ask, do you have this in a Microsoft file instead of a PDF so it can be typed into? Thank you for your time!

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

This school year is my sixth year teaching. I have taught 5th grade for two years and 4th grade for four years. When I taught 5th grade I taught one year of all subject areas and one year of reading/language arts. I have taught 4th grade math and science for the past four years. I recently graduated from The University of Georgia {GO DAWGS} with an Ed.S. in early childhood education and a gifted endorsement.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I like hands-on fun that invites students to actively engage in the learning process. I encourage critical thinking and self-assessing. I REALLY enjoy using the guided math model in my classroom.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I have a bachelor's in Early Childhood Education. I also have a master's degree in Early Childhood Education with a specialization in reading and literacy. I also have my specialist degree in ECE and a gifted endorsement. I truly am a life-long learner. I enjoy going to school almost as much as I enjoy teaching!
