The product in question is not a unit. It is a lesson plan and I described it as such. The product is meant to be used within the larger context of a unit. I am sorry for the confusion however and suggest you read the descriptions of my or anyone's product in the future.

Hi, I just purchased the government simulation, and I'm a little unclear as to how it works. Are there equal number of students in each of the groups? If this is the case, then Area 4 is getting just as much of a say-so in the formation of the new government as Area 1 which is eight times as large. I'm thinking that the number of students in each group should somewhat be dependent on population, correct? Also, each student will get a vote in the General Assembly, right? I'm just trying to envision how the students will go about deciding the details of their new government...

Hi David, and thank you for your question. When I taught this simulation, I kept the groups the same size. But I don't think that having varied groups will effect the lesson, and it might even enhance the experience. However, the Area 4 group might not like the fact that vote means next to nothing and not complete their work. I kept my groups the same because my students would act out if things weren't "fair". And I so sorry, this simulation is missing the lesson plan (I'm currently in the process of renovating my older products). There should be a day or so of online research of various types of government. http://www.kidcyber.com.au/topics/govtforms.htm is a good site to start, especially for younger students. http://www.historyforkids.org/learn/government/ is another good site, especially for slightly older students. This replaces the "what is a Government" handout that I couldn't include because it's not mine. I hope this helps, but if there are more questions just email me at terrylynnmcleod@sasktel.net.

Dear Terry-Lynn--
On the Living, Dead, Non-living quiz (which is terrific) I have 3 questions I need clarification on:
# 3 If cotton is dead, are you including that the cotton boll can include the seeds?
# 1 By the same logic—wouldn’t the silk from the silk worm be dead instead of non-living? (although it is a byproduct no gametes)
# 20 How is TV dead?

Thank you for your question. You are the first to discover the gray areas in my little quiz.
Cotton and silk can very easily be dead or non-living. I was thinking the more processed an items is the more likely it is non-living rather than dead. On the quiz I was thinking of more processed cotton and silk. However, lately I've been thinking that my logic may be faulty. So feel free to change the answer key.
As for the TV, that must be an uncaught typo. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.
I hope that answers any concerns. I apologize for the faulty logic and typo.

My first year as a teacher was at an alternative school for mentally ill and behaviourly problematic children, where I taught grade 5 and 6 students at varying degrees of academic ability.
