I have been teaching for 7 years. Six of those were in 4th grade, and I currently teach gifted students in K-8. Aside from teaching, I was in the U.S. Army for six years.
Do you remember the old-school grammar books: the repetitive, boring, effective practice they provided? Are your lessons more exciting now, but your comprehensive literacy series is missing the necessary practice for mastery? Bring both excitement and effective practice to your grammar lessons to improve your students writing! Rock Your Writing! is a kid-friendly, supplement and intervention for teaching writing and grammar to elementary students. As a teacher myself, I have found that good music helps students to stay excited and retain more information. I'm on a mission to improve student learning and engagement.

The Grammarheads was born out of my first observation by the school principal. Being a long-term substitute and desperately wanting my first job as a 4th grade teacher, I wrote a lesson plan to teach adverbs. Of course, we all know that the good ol' English textbook just isn't going to cut it. Using it will surely put the observing principal to sleep, as well as the students. So, I wrote a punk-rock song and played the guitar. After 30 minutes, the kids had their hands in the air and singing, "Adverbs, adverbs, when, where, how!" Oh, and so was the principal. She hired me full time, and I'm still teaching and writing songs eight years later! I'm also a husband and a father with five amazing children. I have been very blessed! All songs, books, PowerPoints, and other materials can also be found on our website. Check out www.grammarheads.com for more things to liven up your elementary classroom!
