This is very good. Love the organization. Did I miss the money section with the coins? That's what we are working on now and it's my "look for" when I buy these notebooks. Let me know. I need all coin types front and back. I would prefer a more realistic look versus a cartoon look. Thank you for the hard work. PS--Are you going to make a notebook for spelling, science, social studies and writing? Hint! If they are this organized I would own them as soon as they are posted. Thank you!

I didn't include money because it's not part of first grade common core, but I have wanted to add a piece because I know many schools are still teaching it - my classroom included ;). I'm working on my second grade notebook now, so I was going to add the money foldable I make for this grade into the first grade notebook. Check back in your "My Purchases" in about a week to see if their is an update. I'm on spring break, so I should be able to get it done. I made one lapbook for science (Living and Nonliving Things), it has foldables, but not specifically for a notebook. I don't see why it can't be used in that way though. I'm going to do a lapbook for patriotic symbols hopefully in the next few weeks. Take care.

Hi! I'm so glad you are enjoying them. Some of the sheets the kids are able to do with little explanation. For example "Lots of Love" I placed in a clear pocket that is stuck to the front white board. I believe I picked it up at Lakeshore Learning Supplies. The kids are able to grab it as seat work when they complete a specific task. The Abraham Lincoln Paragraph Puzzle was used with direct instruction. I put the paper under my Elmo and discussed the parts of a paragraph. Read, Color, Print & Stamp is something I use for a center activity. I love it because I don't have enough parents for all my centers, so something like this they can do on their own and are quietly engaged for 15 to 20 minutes. I use those little yellow stamps from Lakeshore as well. I believe you can find them on Amazon too. Sweet Syllables and I Love Writing I had a parent direct them during a center. They need little guidance, but the parents are their to check. Many of my parents are nervous about running a center, so activities like this make it easy for them. Many of the others I use when we finish early and have a few extra minutes. I can squeeze in some extra practice or use them a planned lesson if we are focusing on a particular skill. I hope this helps.
Take care,
Kristen

Write Start Preschool  (TpT Seller) re: Alphabet Book
I would like to know a few things.
1. Are these patterns a blackline?
2. How are they arranged on a sheet? Like in your d for dinosaur example- are the plates on one page and the d outline on another, or are they all on the same page?
3. I would love to see a copy of just 1 of the letter templates as a preview. Any letter would be great!
I'm very interested, but would like to know what I'm getting myself into before I commit to purchase.
Thank you for your time!

Hi! Thanks for your questions. I'm going to have to add a preview in case others have the same questions as you. So thank you.
1. Yes they are blackline. I use my master to copy on construction paper.
2. There are two letters to each page. Cut in half and you have a letter for two children. The attachments are arranged so you can fit multiple on one page. If a letter requires more than one additional color, it is separated on another sheet. It's arranged so you use the least amount of paper. I've labeled each attachment (horn, face, leg) so that the students know the side with the name is the side to glue.
3. I use this with my first graders only we make "Super Sentences" to accompany the letters. Since a couple ages use this, I've included some letter with multiple choices. For example my students might do the jaguar, but the preK might choose to do the jellyfish.
Let me know what letter you're working on and I'll email you a sample to try. Otherwise give me a day or two and I'll upload a preview.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
Kristen

**JUST ADDED A PREVIEW. HOPE IT HELPS.

I just purchased the Common Core Morning Work for First Graders Big Bundle Weeks 1 - 36. I was wondering what you suggest the students do with the partial number grid found on morning work 13.1, 13.2, and 13.3. I appreciate your help.

Hi Lisa,
My students have a very hard time with ten more, ten less. I like to include a number chart to help them find the answer. For example if they count the tens and ones next to the number chart on 13.2 it should equal 84. They can use the chart to find what is above and below that number (ten less, ten more). I know many teachers have a chart in their classroom, but I found with my kids it helps if it is already on their paper. Hope this helps. Take care. Kristen

I've actually just started working on a Language Notebook three days ago. I'm so excited because I really want to make sure I'm hitting all of those standards. There are so many "rules" keeping it all in a notebook will help solidify what we have been learning. There are almost 30 Common Core Standards in Language - Conventions of Standard English and Vocabulary Acquisition and Use. I'll have an interactive notebook entry for each standard. Also included will be optional journal entries just like in the Math Notebook. Thanks for asking. I hope to have it out by mid January. Take care. Kristen

Hi Cindy, Sorry you're having trouble with this file. It is a secured file, but only for copying text, images and other content. We are requested to do this so that artists' clip art cannot be cut and pasted into other documents. You are still able to download, open, save, and print the file. Some sellers do not secure their files because they are not aware of how to do it, but it is a requirement of the clip artists. I've sold quite a few of these downloads today without a problem, so it may be you need to update your version of Adobe. If that doesn't work, I would contact the TpT tech team. They are amazing and will get back to you quickly. https://support.teacherspayteachers.com/Report-An-Issue.html They will be able to guide you through this with much more expertise. Sorry again, I want to get this resolved for you, so let me know if there is still a problem after you have spoken with the tech team. Take care.

All 36 weeks are in the same PDF file, one right after the next. If you keep scrolling down all the weeks are there. You shouldn't be needing to download separate files. If you are still having a problem, the file is really big and so emailing it all at one time wouldn't be possible. I'm confident TpT can help you with this. They are however closed for the evening, so I can send you a week worth of lessons if you have run out. You'll be able to leave your email in the Ask a Question section. and just let me know what week you're working on. Sorry you're having some trouble, but I'm sure we can figure it out. Let me know what happens. Kristen

Hi :) I bought this but afterwards realized that I can't use many of these pages because my kids learn sight words every two weeks in small groups. They don't necessarily learn all the sight words on one page at the same time - some pages have words they learn soon and words they won't learn for months. Is there any way to have editable versions of this do that I can make it fit my curriculum? Please and thank you :)

Honestly I have never made a PDF editable, so I'm not sure how to go about it on a worksheet like this. I can't send it in a word document because the clip artist requires her work to be secured in PDF, so the images cannot be lifted. I can take all the words off and send you a wordless PDF with just the images. Not sure if this would work for you, let me know. Enjoy the rest of your week.

There are 31 foldables and 18 journal prompts, so for me it lasts the whole year. I do one foldable a week and journal prompts are done less frequently. This year I have 33 kids, so I don't do these whole group. At the beginning of the year, making the notebooks is as much about following directions as it is about math. Thursdays and Fridays I do math notebooks. It takes about 30 - 45 min. On Thursdays, I work with half my class at a time, so they are sitting on one side of the room. I keep this group for the entire center time. the remaining kids are split into 3 groups. Two of the groups work with adults and one group is independent. On Friday, we switch. I work with the groups I did not have on Thursday. Then those kids do the three centers they didn't do the day before. Sounds difficult, but it works really well for the size I have. First, I have all the cut pieces to show them how exactly to cut theirs. Then, I have a complete journal to show them what it will look like when completed. It's definitely not an independent activity, but depending on your class size and skill level it can be small groups or whole class. I never have more than 17 kids and at this time of year, it's pushing it. I will say, we are on our third foldable this year and I have seen HUGE improvement from the first. They do love making them. I have some real artistic kids, so they are really wanting to make it look nice. It helps for them to see mine and see that I took the time to make it look good. I'll be having them out for Open House. Hope this helps.

The math has 22 of the 24 standards included. 1.OA.7 and 1.G.3 are not there. I did include money even though it is no longer a standard in first grade, so many customers said they are still being asked to go over it by their districts.
The language arts section focuses on Reading Foundational Skills. All the Phonemic Awareness,Phonics and Word Recognition, and Fluency skills are covered. I did not write in the standards because often so many are covered in one lesson it would take up too much space. Although Reading Foundational Skills is the focus other common core standards are touched on in the process...ending sentences with periods, common adjectives, comprehension, printing upper and lower case words, etc.
Hope this helps. If I can answer any more questions, just let me know.

There are 24 Common Core Math Standards for first grade. Included are 31 different foldables for the notebook. There is at least one foldable to match each standard, so some standards have more than one foldable. Also included are 18 journal prompts. I put these in the opposite page of the related standard in the kids' notebook. When the book is open, the left would have the journal prompt and on the right the notebook foldable. I don't believe I included any pictures of the journal prompts in the preview, but there are pics showing examples of every prompt and foldable in the actual download. Hope this helps.

I would have to break the file up and in the end that wouldn't be as convenient for you. Sorry I can't be of more help, this is the first time someone has had this problem, let me know what they say. We'll somehow get the download to you. Thanks, Kristen

Buyer re: Morning Work - Weeks 1 - 12
This morning work looks great and seems very challenging and meaningful for the mornings especially since I like to go over my morning work once it has been completed. I just have one question- what does the sentence at the morning go with? I guess because it is a copy or for whatever reason I can't understand how the kids are to answer the sentence question. Please explain. Thank you.

I'm going to write a few examples below to help clarify the intent of the bottom portion of the morning work.
First you'll see the same sentence written twice.
Example 1.1
Read: Where is the orange cat? (This part is for fluency practice and to practice reading the skill of the week in context. This week the morning work was focusing on short a. Also, it is to give the reader an idea of the topic of the puzzle sentence, so they will use this information when completing the puzzle.)
Trace: Where is the orange cat? ( This is for printing practice and to have another opportunity to read the sentence.)
Answer: The orange cat is on the mat. (This focuses on comprehension. They are putting together the sentence puzzle to reply to the above sentence)

Sometimes in the Read, Trace section there is a question, sometimes there is a statement. However, the 2 sentences will always relate to one another. The answer portion doesn't necessarily mean the answer to the "read" question, it means the place where you put the correct sentence puzzle.

Another example...Week 3.3 the focus is on short o. Below is not a question, but rather a statement.
Read: I lost my little doll.
Trace: I lost my little doll. (Again, this is for fluency, decoding and to help with the puzzle, so the learner knows the subject of the sentences.
Answer: You dropped your doll by the rock.

Hope this helps. My store has 2 free lessons you can download and try with your class to see if it will work for you. If you have any further questions, let me know.
Enjoy the rest of your evening.

Hi,

I printed the Ipad rules, they are adorable. The words are blurry. Is there something I can do to fix this? Chris

There is a shadow box on each of the sets of words, that's probably what is giving the blurry effect. I took it off so the words look more "flat" on the screen. See if you like the look any better.

Great. I just have one more question, when you say Week, does that mean five lesson sheets; or one sheet for the entire week? Yes, I would love the outline for the week. Thank you. Your worksheets appear to be more advanced...love that.

There are five sheets per week. If I get behind during the week, it's okay because it's meant for independent practice so they'll only be that more familiar with the concept. I also use it as homework or small group if we have an assembly or something else going on in the beginning in the day. Leave your email and I'll send you the first 24 week outline.

Are these common core standards California based?

These match with the new CCSS. However I'm from CA and the second grade teachers use this and it matches with what they are required to teach. The language arts section focuses on the CCSS foundation skills, but includes language skills as well. The math also works well with CA standards as well. Let me know if you have any specific areas you were hoping they address and I'll let you know. I can also send you the outline of what material is covered each week. enjoy your weekend.

Buyer re: Bucket Filler
Interested in your packet. I teach K. Just wondering how much writing is in your packet as I would like to use this at the beginning of the year and of course, lucky if the kids know some of their letters so any writing activity wouldn't be appropriate. I've looked at your samples, but they are too small to really get a good look at.

The paragraph would be too difficult, but you could use the brainstorming page as a whole class activity. There is a page that has the sentence starter..."I can fill a bucket by..." and "I can use my lid when...". The lines are large enough the kids can best guess spell and you can "translate" underneath. The last page in the booklet has two options. Write and illustrate or just illustrate. Hope this helps.

Do you have five days for each week? Also, are all the problems covering the same standards for the whole week? Can you use the fifth day for a quiz?

There are 5 days for each week. Each week focuses on one reading skill, such as base words ending in -er and -est. However, there are 5 different language arts activities that incorporate that reading skill. It may focus on counting syllables, but use -er and -est or antonyms using -er and -est or ABC order to the 2nd of 3rd letter using -er and -est. There will always be a comprehension sentence puzzle that uses words from the specific reading skill of that week. The math also carries out one theme for the week. The whole packet becomes progressively more difficult as the year progresses. Though they are not assessments, I use the first grade version and it gives me a real clear understanding of who is "getting it". A second grade teacher at my school also mentioned having an assessment to follow along with the morning work, so maybe that it something I will look into. Thank you for your interest. Enjoy the weekend.

There is a sample of the morning work that is 2 lessons that is provided to teachers to download for free, so they can see if they like it and if it will work well for their classroom. This way when they purchase the product, they'll know better what they are getting. You chose to purchase the entire year bundle for $32, it does state that and it would have also shown that price at checkout. I do not handle the transactions, so I am not in a position to offer a refund, that is something you have to contact TpT about. With digital items you really aren't able to "return" it since you will always have that file on your computer.

I agree. I'm a clip art addict. However most of my clip art is from my favorite artist Nikki from Melonheadz Illustrations. She sells her work right here on this site. If you check out her blog, she has tons of freebies to get you started.

I'm working on the last 12 weeks now. It should be done by mid September. It will be about 10% discounted ($32). If you want to buy the first one now so you can get started, come back and purchase the other two at a later time. I'll email you something from my store that is around $5.

Connie J. re: Owl Behavior Log and Clip Chart
Hello - earlier this summer, you personalized the colors and wording of this chart for me (to match the kindergarten teams color system). I had it laminated and posted - and my principal made a comment about the "size" of both the very bottom and top of the chart (consequences" and "outstanding"). She would like the last 2 (red and orange)to be on the same paper, with red being only about 1/3 of the page and orange being 2/3rds. Sam for top. pink being 2/3rds and purple 1/3rd of page. (Her thought - don't want a lot of clips on these, want it to look like not a lot belong there). I know this is a lot to ask, do you think it is possible to do this (if you send me the colors in an editable PPT, I should be able to adjust the sizing myself)
Thanks so much!!!

There should be a 1/2 inch around each of the logs. The posters are made to the edge, so depending on your printer, it might print closer to one side than the other. I printed one out now and the colored area was even. My printer had about an 1/8 of an inch more white on one side than the other. When I made my behavior board I cut the white off before I laminated. The colored area was balanced so it was fine. If you prefer a white border, let me know if you want a 1/2 inch or inch around each side and I can email you a modified version. Obviously the larger white border, the smaller the poster. Let me know what you would prefer. Enjoy your evening.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I’ve been a classroom teacher for the past 18 years, but it wasn’t until I was transferred into first grade eleven years ago that I truly found my calling. Seeing the growth children make in their reading and writing skills in this one year is amazing. I’m able to witness the beginning of their educational journey and I hope I’m able to nurture a love of learning in the process. I’ve always enjoyed created materials to use in my classroom, but joining the TpT community has inspired me all the more. I love being part of a group of educators that are always looking for ways to improve upon their craft. You are ever evolving as an educator and I can’t wait to find out what happens next.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I want children to love to come to school. I like to make learning fun and interactive.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I was given the biggest honor when I was blessed with my two kiddos. My son and daughter are the best awards I have received thus far.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I have a MS degree and Specialist Credential in Reading. Language Arts is what I truly love to teach.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I teach in sunny southern California. I love that each year I have a diverse group of kids, supportive parents, and an amazing team to work beside.
