Hi,
That sounds great!! We love the book- Whistling Thorn by Helen Cowcher. I would love to see a giraffe as part of the project. We also like the African folktale books like- Lazy Lion and Hot Hippo and Greedy Zebra. These are fantastic books! The elephant is always popular. I look forward to seeing the project! There are so many animals it is hard to choose. The cheetah is always so cool also.
Thank you for your time!

Hi Diane - I have been thinking about what animals to create research projects for next. I would love to hear about what specific African animals that you and your students study. I am considering doing a "My First Research Project" for African and Australian animals. Rather than ten printable pages about a single animal ... it would be more like three pages each for a variety of animals from that area. What do you think about that? I would love to hear your honest opinion? Thanks :)

Oh my gosh! I love your stuff!! I'm plan on following your blog and your store . . . I can't wait to explore more. Regarding this theme package . . . first of all, your artwork is amazing! Did you draw everything?! Wow. I have a question too: I'm trying to convince my school to do a spring push for independent reading, how much would you charge for a site license? We have about 450 students in our school, I think that there are 16 regular classroom teachers. I don't want to get your hopes up, because there never seems to be money for fun stuff like this, but I thought I'd give it a try with them. At the very least, I'm going to use it in my class. I think that my kiddos will really respond to it. P.S. Thanks for posting on my Linky Party! I'm so glad I found you.

Hi Laurie -

I wish that I was that talented! The art in this product, Just Read, is the work of Dawn Inskip. She can be found at scrapbookgraphics.com. She doesn't have a commercial use license but I emailed her personally, and she gave me permission to use for TpT. Her stuff is wicked cute!

As a librarian, one of my main goals is to encourage literacy in schools! If you purchase this product for yourself, I give you my blessing to hand it out to your colleagues!! No multiple licenses needed :) let's get your munchkins reading!!!

Try pointing your mouse at the file and do a right click on your mouse. You should see an option that says something like Extract or Unzip. Click on that and see what happens.

Have you tried a pfdconverter online like the one at www.freepdfconvert.com?? If you are still struggling with this, I would grant you the right to use this one set of frames for your use in a PPT. Your product should not be a freebie, as that would really equal giving away the frames. Many designers request that the product be in a PDF or flattened, because it is SOOOOO easy for someone to right click to copy and paste the images in their own document. So, if a teacher bought your product, they could have the frame as a bonus. Do you know what I mean?

Hi Jean - The quick answer is that you would insert the graphic into a program like Word, create a text box that you locate inside the frame, and then type away. I am working on a graphic tutorial to help you out further, but it probably won't be ready until tomorrow. Hang in there!

Hi Kristy - If you have a projector and can connect that computer to the Internet, you should be all set. Simply go to http://express.smarttech.com/#. It will give you the option to "Open an existing Notebook file." You can click on that and then open the file that you download from here. You can also download the SMART Notebook software for free. Once downloaded and installed, you can open the file. Hope that this helps :)

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I taught third and fourth grade for twelve years and learned that many nine and ten-year-olds have not only lots of spunk and energy, but a great sense of humor! I was lucky enough to teach two cycles of a third to fourth grade loop. I was a self-contained classroom and taught all subject areas. My passion for both literature and burgeoning technology sent me in pursuit of a degree as a school librarian. I have been working as a school library media specialist for the last three years in a PreK to grade 5 elementary school. I have recently discovered the amazing world of educators sharing their bountiful ideas, lessons, worksheets, and units on websites like Teachers Pay Teachers. As a former teacher, and current library media specialist, I was thrilled with the idea of finding new materials created by other teachers and sharing some of my materials with other librarians. So, if you happen to stumble upon my site, send your librarian here. I hope to have much to share, but I also have much to learn.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am a very "unquiet" librarian!! My library is a constant barrage of kids, laughter, questions, answers, gaming, computer use, and of course, BOOKS! I believe that students learn best by doing and answering their own questions. I also firmly believe that today's librarian needs to be aware of the recent shift in education. I refer to the Common Core Standards daily and have tweaked many of my existing lessons to better align with them.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Ahh ... if only I had something impressive and nationally recognized to list here! Sadly, I don't. However, I have had a few little ones dub me "The Best Liberrian Ever", been told that I am "pretty cool" and been referred to the as that "awesome book lady." No, not renown honors, but I would take them over a plaque any day.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I received my high school diploma from a small school in upstate New York, my Education Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Potsdam State University, and my Library Media Specialist Master's Degree from Mansfield University.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Not only do I have the best job in school, but I have the best family at home! I am married to a great guy, one who is pretty patient with my love affair with all things techie, and two teenagers. As far as teenagers go, they are keepers. Both are active in sports, academics, and clubs. Life is good!!
