I love this idea!! Unfortunately our school has implemented a new Wellness Policy and we are no longer allowed to use food as a reward. Do you have an idea how I could use this without the ice cream sundae party. (even though I would have loved that).

Also how do you keep it organized? Do you copy all your quizzes at one time and have them in piles? Just curious how you have found it works best? Thanks!
March 16, 2013 Report inappropriate comment
The Teachers' Cauldron
The Teachers' Cauldron  (TpT Seller)
I think our district is on the verge of this as well. What I have also done for kids who don't like ice cream, pizza, or nachos is to have a "game day" where they get to come in during lunch or activity or both. They can play the games they want, like Legos, checkers, etc. Or you could have a movie day, or a "Spend the day (or part of) with their favorite teacher helping out."
To keep them organized, I have a BIG binder, and printed up ALL the quizzes and cover pages and "craft" templates. The binder is FILLED with page protectors and each quiz gets it's own protector. I also put the Cover pages in a protector, with the craft pages on the back of it, so they are kept together. For example, all the different versions of -2 (vertical and horizontal) are in one sleeve. I copy off "so many" quizzes, cut them in half and keep them in the protector with the originals, that way I when I see that I'm getting low, I just pull them out from right there. The protectors keep everything nice and organized and neat, and it's easy to flip through. I'll have to do a blog post on how I keep my binder organized this week so everyone can see that. :) Thanks for your question, I hope this helped! Let me know if you need any more help - jenross1018@yahoo.com

I was wondering if this was something that if I bought the bundle, I could differentiate and have my lower kids working on addition and subtraction and my higher kids working on the multiplication and beyond packet, or if these are more whole group activities?

Absolutely!! I teach 2nd grade, but even when I taught 3rd, I started everyone on the addition facts, and then they progressed on their own. Right now, I have about 1/2 my class on multiplication and the other half on subtraction. I even JUST had a student pass his x12s, so he's moving on to the "beyond" quizzes now. I definitely use them to differentiate for my kids. They all take them at the same time, but they're all on different quizzes. Does this help? If you need to, you can email me at jenross1018@yahoo.com :)

I love the book packets I purchased, but I wanted to know how you are reading the books. Do you have multiple copies of the books for the students or are you just using the packet as a response to a teacher read aloud? Are you posting a copy under a document camera and reading together?

Hi there! It really depends on the book. Some books I have multiple copies of, some I have the students listen to on CD or a website as a center and some I just do as a read aloud. If I have multiple copies or they listen to it on a CD or website, then they are usually doing it as a "center" with a small group. Does this help? cryazzie re: 3-Digit Numbers - Freebie
I appreciate all your freebies! I have a question on this one. As I looked at the cards with the number words, the common between the hundreds and the tens caught my eye as incorrect. For example, on card 20 you have "nine hundred, eighty-one." In anything I've ever seen, it would be written "nine hundred eighty-one." No commas between hundreds and tens. (Comma used if it were "one thousand, seven hundred sixty-four.) I tried to research it before leaving this question--couldn't find a definitive answer. Thought I'd ask you as a way to double check. Thanks.

What do you mean by passing all the way to 12? Does it mean that they have to do 50 of the +2 facts in a minute or just the amount that is on one of your sheets? I have my kids do facts every day but I need to set goals for each of them and I'm not sure how. Does every student have a different time set for them or is the differentiated part the math fact they are doing? You also said some are doing multiplication? Do they have to go through + and - in a certain amount of time? Thank you!

Hi there!
Each student gets 1 minute on my quizzes (but you can change the time to fit your class/individual students). They start with the addition, and as each student passes a quiz, they move to the next one. Some don't pass for a few tries, so they stay on that quiz until they pass. Currently, I have a few kids on addition, some kids on subtraction, and about six students on multiplication. After they pass all the addition quizzes, they move to subtraction. After they mass all the subtraction, they move to the multiplication set. I hope this helps!

I love the unit on Bear Snores On but I am wondering if there is any way you can change the font on the vocabulary words? My supervisor is very picky about readability of print fonts and it woud be so wonderful if you could make these word cards and a font that is more readable. I just uploaded the fixed version - so sorry about that! I don't know how I or my two "editors" missed that!

The Holidays around the world is awesome. However when I try to print the passport none of the words come up and their are giant lines. Is there any way for you to email me just that page? I greatly appreciate your wonderful work.

Could you possibly rearrange the Hard G and Soft G posters at the beginning?
Could you move up the I onto the 2nd line on the Hard G poster?
Could you move up the I and add "or" before it on the Soft G poster?
Otherwise both are quite confusing,
while the Hard and Soft C posters are clear.
