Do these correlate with the CCSS?

Thanks for your question. Each page explains to parents what each reading level means. The families can use this guide to help their child's reading. The handout supports the Common Core Standards in Reading Literature and Informational Text.

I love your morning work, but I was making February and realized there are not enough days. Normal schools would have 1 holiday in February (President's Day) making 19 days of school. However, there are only 16 days of work.

Thank for your question. I purposely made February shorter because February is a short month and districts around here have a week off in February. If you have morning work days left over from previous months you can have your students work on those instead. I also have my students work on a math journal (coming soon).

This morning work looks great but I am a little surprised by the cost. I will have to put it on my wish list and wait for a TPT sale. Do you ever put these morning work units on sale?

Christina Lawrence  (TpT Seller) re: First Grade Morning Work - Activities for Aug - May School Year BUNDLE
Hi, I teach first grade at an international school. My students ability level is split pretty evenly - with half of my students working well above grade level and the other group working just below or at first grade level (non-Native English speakers). Can you tell me which set would be more appropriate -- the first grade set or the second grade set? What is the major differences between the two (I'm assuming its in the math practice sections?)

Thanks.

Great question and thank you for your interest. I use the first grade morning work for both below and above grade level in the beginning of the year. As the year progresses the difficulty level increases. I continue to give support to my weaker students but allow most of my above grade level students to work on it independently. Then we review it together. The routine by the end of the year takes no longer than 10-15 minutes. Despite their higher academic achievements most of the above grade level students still forget to capitalize, use commas, or need support with the analogies! You are correct that the major difference in the first and second grade packet is in the math practice pages which is aligned to the common core standards. Second grade also practices more than first grade the rules of punctuation and grammar with commas, apostrophes, contractions, etc. If you have any further questions feel free to contact me at TheTemplateTeacher@gmail.com - I am inspired by teachers like you that work so hard in international schools. That has always been a dream of mine! Good luck this school year.

I have been looking for morning work that engages my firsties, however, this requires a lot of paper. How do you use this in your class? I would love to purchase the product for the entire year. We are given 10 reams per year. They do not want to see worksheets.

Thanks for your inquiry. I have used this morning work for over 7 years now. The students are always engaged and enjoy the morning work to see if they can find the mistakes and show off their math skills. To help cut out the amount of paper, I double-side each day. In the past I put the morning work into a 1 1/2" binder. I am lucky enough that my school district has no such restrictions AND I am able to bind several months together so that papers are all in one place. I hope this helps and thanks for your interest!

Here in the Midwest we start school in August. Last year we started on August 15. We finish school before Memorial Day. Do you have any plans to do a few pages for August for first grade? It would be great to start morning work right away when school starts! I'm guessing June would be a little more difficult than September and so may not work to move to August. Thank you for your great ideas!
