Hi Sue,
I absolutely love your kindergarten blog!! You have the most creative ideas. I am a new teacher and I have a question about your, "sign in for the day slip." I would like to try this for my first summer school k class. I was wondering.... Do you start this on the first day of school? Do you model for them how to do this a few times? What do early finishers do when they are done writing there name? How long are they given to write their name? Any helpful feedback would be AWESOME! Thank you.

The Very Busy Kindergarten
Hi Nicole,
I generally start this on the second or third day of school. I do model for them. I have cards for them to copy at first. I give them about 5-10 minutes. I focus on one letter at a time and encourage them to work improving. I try to meet with each child daily to give them encouragement. When they finish early they can work on puzzles or books. I accept whatever they can do and work for one improvement at a time. If a child is really struggling with a letter I will draw it for them very lightly for them to trace over. One year I pre-wrote a little guy's name in a yellow marker for him to trace for a while until he was able to do it on his own. I hope this was helpful to you. Thank you for reading my blog.

if this was intentional, then please disregard my note: seems the format of the download is 8.5" x 11" instead of legal sized

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am currently teaching kindergarten at a private school in Wisconsin. I love to teach reading and math. I am always looking for new and exciting ways to help my students grow as learners.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I love to teach in small groups as much as possible. I am exploring with math centers this year and I hope to add more with literacy center next year.
