In 2006, I student taught in a dynamite 3rd grade classroom in Tallahassee, FL. I had two incredible mentor teachers that really influenced my teaching style. My first "official" teaching job was in Boise, Idaho. I taught morning and afternoon Kindergarten for a year. I swore I'd never teach another grade because I loved Kindergarten so much! In 2008, I moved to Texas and began teaching first grade. I recently accepted a position as an Instructional Specialist in Reading & Math (K-2) for my district.
100% Constructivist. I love to watch the light bulb go off for children when they are working in literacy stations and small groups. Children must build and create their own knowledge through meaningful and relevant learning experiences. The teacher has an important role, as guide and facilitator. As William Butler Yeats once said, “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.â€
General Educator of the Year (2010-2011), Recipient of UNT’s Laurem Christian Robertson Memorial Scholarship (May 2011), Graduated Magna Cum Laude from Florida State University (May 2007)
I graduated from the University of North Texas with a Master's in Curriculum & Instruction in 2012. My coursework has given me tremendous insight of effective teaching and instruction, and I would love to share this with others! I completed my undergraduate coursework in Elementary Education at Florida State University.
I got married in December 2011 in Highlands, NC. We had a fairytale, winter wedding! My husband and I are loving every minute of being "Newlyweds" and we are so excited about starting our family very soon! We have one pet, a kitty cat, who is affectionately named Boise! Boise is incredibly playful, sweet, and a great snuggler! In my free time, I enjoy reading, shopping, running, and doing projects around the house. I can't get enough of TeachersPayTeachers and Pinterest, and sometimes I wonder how we ever lived without these incredible resources! :)
