vjaynd re: Rainforest Animal Masks (Included in Rainforest: Maps, Mural, Minimuseum)
The rhino in your unit is not the Javan Rhino (one horn) which is the only kind of rhino that lives in the rainforest. Can you change the picture?

Hello,

I am very new to this...please tell me how to "flatten" the images so that I can use them to sell my lesson plans.

Thank you,

Hi Karen!

Thanks for asking! If you convert your products to PDF files, the images will flatten to the page and they can't be lifted off. Here's how to make a PDF file in any Microsoft Office product (and I imagine other applications work the same way):

File Menu--go to Save As
At the bottom of the Save As screen is the place you type in the name of the file. Underneath that is the "Save As Type" bar. At the far right of that bar is an arrow. Click on it and a drop down menu appears showing you all the types of files you can use. Select PDF and the images will be flattened.

In the beginning I used to offer all my products as PDF and also as Word products. That way people could customize them any way they wanted. But no one has ever bought a "Word" product so I stopped offering them. In a Word, Power Point, or Publisher file the images are not flattened. Anyone using one of those files can simply copy the image and add it to their clip art files--that's why most clip art sellers want the image flattened. Once it's saved as PDF it becomes much harder (although not impossible) to "lift" the art work.

I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any more questions, and thanks for using the product!

Thanks, Tonya. I've been following you for a couple of weeks! In fact, I just pinned a couple of your freebies! Your blog is great. It looks like you're going places fast!

Thanks for following me--I'm not as advanced on the technology curve as you are!

I recently downloaded your 2012-2013 Artful Teaching Planner. I LOVE it! However, I am only able to open up the PDF files. I'd really like to be able to edit the documents in Word before I print them. There is an issue with the text encoding.
Is there anyway you could email me the documents?

Thank you in advance!

Sure. The original was made using Microsoft Publisher (my favorite software). I'll convert it to Word for you, but it'll take me a few hours. I'll get it to you ASAP. I may have trouble emailing, though, since the files are so huge, so I'll repost a new version that contains the Word files, and you can download it again. I'll send you an email when I get the new file uploaded.

Just to be sure--was it Artful Teaching or Learner's Workshop? Learner's Workshop is the item listed on my sales info.

Thanks for letting me know this is important to you, and for your kind comments.

I saw your posting on the Sellers Forum page of Teachers Pay Teachers; so, I thought I would look at your freebie. I left you a rating.

I have a few suggestions that might help you to better market your products. First, create a cover page which can then be used as an attractive thumbnail to entice buyers. Add a second page which is a directions or suggestions page. List several ways you use this product in your classroom. Never assume that a buyer knows how, why, or when to use your product. Use the footer to put the copyright symbol, your name and date of creation on EVERY page. Items, especially free ones, have been "stolen" from TPT and posted on other sites to be sold. You have to protect all of your creations.

If you have time, I’d appreciate your input on my freebie listed below. It is a 21 slide power point on water.

Hi Sandie! I purchased your Rainforest Rendevous and love it! I read for the job tree you can change the names of the jobs to personalize it, but I am having a difficult time figuring out how to change it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks so much for your colorful fun Rainforest classroom helpers!

Hi Cynthia, I'm sorry you're having trouble changing the job names. There should be 2 files for each of the helpers charts--one is a PDF, and the other is a Microsoft Word document. You can't change the PDF file, but if you open the Word doc file you should be able to double click on the words and just retype your own title. If this doesn't work, let me know and I'll send you the files on a disk. The same thing is true with typing student names. You have to use the Word file to enter their names.

Again, if this doesn't work, please let me know so I can figure out what the problem is!

Thanks for the feedback,
Sandie

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I began teaching in high school, when I got my first job as an aide in a neighborhood day care center. My second day on the job it was just me (16 years old) and 24 four year olds. I loved that job! I began a long career of learning, observing, evaluating, constructing, redoing, changing, inventing, growing, making, and living, back there at the preschool. During the 33 years I spent working in schools, 24 of them were spent as a general education classroom teacher. I spent 4 years working as a support teacher (resource specialist and intervention teacher) and 5 years as a special day class teacher. I enjoy diversity and change, so I rarely taught the same grade two years in a row, and more than half of my career was spent in multi-graded classrooms. This gives me a pretty broad perspective!

MY TEACHING STYLE

Everything I have done since starting out as a preschool teacher has been focused on thematic instruction that is child centered and designed to make learning real. I believe that children have really learned something when their view of the world has changed as a result of their educational activities. I believe actively involving children in their learning through simulation games and reproducing "real life" experiences, while immersing them in science, social studies, and art content is a great way to truly change their knowledge and understanding, no matter what their age or developmental level.
