Kimberly K. re: American Revolution Wax Museum Research Project [Common Core]
I recently purchased this packet from you and my students are only on the research stage, but they are already loving it! I was wondering if you could provide me with a sample of a student monologue. I think it will be really beneficial for my students to be able to see exactly what a monologue looks and sounds like. Thank you!

I was wondering if you happened to have the license plate template that is referenced in the packet?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Tolu! My partner teacher and I came across your colonial day project while looking up resources for our colonial life unit. It looks fantastic! We were wondering about the research packet for each topic of colonial life. We saw that it includes focus questions, but does the packet also include articles or other resources they would be reading to answer those questions or will the students be looking it up on their own from the internet or books we would go and provide? If there are readings included for the focus questions, are they all from one source or do they include multiple sources for students to read and explore? Thank you for taking the time to read and answer!

Hi Jackie,

Thanks for contacting me! The research packets themselves do not include articles for students to use in order to answer the focus questions. Rather, students are expected to conduct their own research using books, the internet, and other sources. ***HOWEVER***, there is a Resources page in this product, where I included a link to my Colonial Fair Wiki. The wiki has a page for each colonial life topic (education, trades, clothing, etc.), and each page has a long list of links to websites and PDF documents that students can use to research their topic. For example, the Education page on the wiki has links to 15 different websites and PDF documents specifically for that topic, in addition to books that students can use. You and your students have free access to the wiki and all the research resources when you purchase this product. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Best,

Tolu

Hi Tolu!

So glad you want to join! I just tried to add you to the board and your name didn't come up when I typed you in. Maybe you have to go to my main board to follow me instead of just the one board? I haven't had this problem before, so maybe try that, and I'll try to add you again!

Hi there! I am trying to put together a collaborative Pinterest board for those of us that write songs for our students. It's for k-12 and any subject. I would love for you to join! Here's the information for the board:

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have had nine years of experience as a classroom teacher. My teaching career began with Teach for America (TFA), the national corps of recent college graduates who commit two years to teach in urban and rural schools in an effort to close the achievement gap. From 2004 to 2007, I taught 6th grade English and Social Studies at an inner city middle school. Since 2007, I have been teaching 5th and 6th grade at an independent elementary school. I also serve as the Upper Grades Coordinator for the school's newly established departmentalized 5th and 6th grade program. My experience teaching in both public and private school settings has given me the opportunity to work with diverse populations of students, parents, and teachers.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Rather than being the sole dispensers of knowledge, I believe that teachers guide students in constructing their own knowledge by presenting clear learning goals, giving regular feedback through a variety of assessments, and providing students with opportunities to develop and share their knowledge in new ways. Given that the classroom is a collection of unique individuals, I also believe that it is the teacher’s role to differentiate instruction to meet each learner where he/she is. This may include building background knowledge, providing extension activities, and scaffolding instruction to help every student meet the learning goals. Furthermore, teachers should encourage inquiry, and teach in ways that are motivating, engaging, and related to students’ interests. They should also utilize authentic tasks and assessments that enable students to use their knowledge in a variety of ways and transfer it to new situations. Oh, and I love to have dance parties in class!
