I began teaching 1st graders at a low income school. I've also taught 2nd grade, 1st/2nd multiage classes, 3rd/4th multiage classes, and am currently a gifted inclusion teacher. I go in and team teach the gifted students in the regular classroom.
My class is very "busy" - we usually have 100 things going on at once. I utelize a project based approach to teaching and try to teach my students to become independent, critical thinkers.
I received the Sally Mae Outstanding New Teacher Award for the best 1st year teacher in my school district. I have also received many grants from a variety of sourses. I have been voted Teacher of the Year by my peers at two different schools.
I graduated from LSU in 1991 with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. In 2005, a week before Hurricane Katrina, I completed my master's degree in gifted education. I am working on National Board Certification for the 2008 - 2009 school year.
I am the mother of 3 children - an 11 year old son, and 6 year old boy/girl twins. They have all been identified as academically gifted, which convinced me to seek a degree in this area.
