Just right books are books that are on a child's independent level as well as meet the purpose for the reading and are of interest to the child. It is basically readability. Not too hard, not too easy, just right. Does that make sense? You have inspired a blog post. I need to get on that. There are so many thoughts on just right. It doesn't have Guided Reading lessons. These lesson are more an interactive read aloud/shared reading type of lessons. You could do some of the vocabulary work and or ideas during Guided Reading. But I don't have suggestions for leveled text. Folktales and Fables are rather complex. I know that my second graders needed a lot of support and scaffolding. Most of them are not independent on the books recommended. I hope that answers your question. Although, if you have ever used Fountas and Pinnell's LLI kit they have a few folktales and a fairytale in that kit. (The Blue kit) I think it is in the higher levels. I can't remember the level, and I am away from my classroom. I can find out if you are interested.

I think the shifts represented are easy to adapt, but you will just want to choose much more complex text. The questions should be text based as well. So this unit might be used as a guide for what you might do, but the days spent on foundational skills and language skills are probably far too simplistic for 4th graders. I hope that answered the question.

The thumbnail right next to the cover page shows the style of the word wall words. Each strand is color coded. For example Informational Text words on in red, Language words are in brown and so on. There are two words per page. Hope that helps.

There aren't any word wall words. This is more of a back to school beginning pack. Are you looking for high frequency words, vocab., or word families? Also, I usually print on regular paper ( in color), glue them to construction paper, and then laminate them to make them a little more sturdy. You could print them on white card stock to save you the trouble of the construction paper. Hope this helps! Have a great year!

It shouldn't be lost. Try searching in your finder. If that doesn't work you can look in your download folder, and finally if all else fails just download it again. They are separated by reading and writing, and the ELA vocab packet is everything all together. I wrote that on the description, but I think it is still confusing to people. I have noticed that two people bought them all. There is no need to do that. The yellow cover ELA Vocabulary contains every strand in Language Arts. I would like to send something to those who bought them all. I don't want teachers to waste their money. I hope this answers your question. I'm sorry if I confused you.

I love your stuff! I am teaching first grade in western ny this year and had the idea of having a camping theme and thanks to you I don't have to reinvent the wheel! Question: would it benefit me to purchase both the 1st grade material and your partners for 3rd 4th and 5th....I could adapt some of the ideas?

There is no need to buy both. We collaborated on this project, and mine has the primary adaptations. They are basically the same without the adaptations. We did that so people could get what they need at different levels. Thankfully, I have the benefit of adding all of her great ideas to mine, so you will have access to them as well through the primary packet. I hope that makes sense! Good luck this year. I love first grade. It has been a while, but I just love how much they grow and change throughout the year. Thank you for the kind words.

A lot of that is from Scrappin Doodles. I also used Morguefiles.com for the photos. They have a huge selection of copyright free photos. You have to be a member, but It is a free membership. Hope that answers your question.

I have been teaching for 15 years in the Florida public schools system. I have 5 years in 1st grade and 10 years in 2nd grade.
