Yes, the answers for the flaps are provided. I also have them as a physical cut and paste option for the students, to help keep them focused on the learning process.

I'm curious about your Grasslands unit. I'm a 3rd grade teacher and my team (6 of us) do a Habitat Unit where students spend 4 days learning about a habitat during a 30 minute block. After those 4 days, students spend the next 4 days in another teacher's classroom for the 30 minutes of social studies. Essentially, I will be teaching the same 4-day unit 6 different times (my habitat is "grasslands"-students will learn about deserts, rainforests, etc. with the other teachers). Do you think your unit lends itself well to only a 4-day unit (including some sort of assessment)?

I will try my best to give you an idea of what my product could do. It seems like you may have no trouble filling up 30 minutes with activities. The issue would be covering the unit well in just 30 minutes for 4 sessions. I will let you know what my product possibly could do for you, and let you decide for yourself.

For research, I have both a KWL chart that is blank, as well as one with some information on it. Students could do their research outside of class, picking just ONE question to research either in groups or individually (or both depending on your classroom dynamics and time allowed for students to work on this topic in other blocks). This would probably make it easier to cover the KWL section, rather than teaching it all at once to the entire classes.

As far as assessment goes, I do not have any tests included with this product at this time. I also do not have a rubric for a research presentation. Depending on when you need this, I could possibly add these to the product for you. I would not change the price of this product with those changes until AFTER you purchased (since your question helps me meet other customers' needs as well). There is a 10 item activity on the food chains that you could count 10 points each. There is a venn diagram activity about animal adaptations that has 5 items to assess (20 pts each). There is a Grasslands of the world map with 6 questions, so they would roughly be 16 - 17 points each. There is a Grasslands of the world match up activity that is 5 items (20 points each).

I doubt you will need extra activities, but being experienced a little with teaching, I always like to have more things prepared rather than coming up short with activities. : ) If you actually did need help filling in those 30 minutes, I also have some activities in this product that extend the topic into Math and Language Arts, giving them a review or practice in word problems (with regrouping addition/subtraction, and multiplication and division), scales and measurement, and skip counting. I also have one Language Arts extension dealing with is and are as verbs.

It also has some word problems, multiplication and division, and a map activity. There is no textbook material. It is supplemental to using books from the library or text books.

I'm so sorry. What product are you asking about? Is it the Wetlands Unit? I do not have any website links on that unit. I have a Website Report form. There are no links included in this product itself, just a form for students to report their findings. However, my website, www.unitedtoteach.com, has links that you can go to. Look under "Wetlands" in my the "curriculum" tab (NOT curriculum of the month, but "curriculum"). Please let me know if this is what the issue is. I do not have links in the product, just a website report form.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

To see what I have been up to most recently, you can visit my website at www.unitedtoteach.com. I share the links and books I come across to create curriculum for my own children. I maintain a featured monthly curriculum in addition to curriculum archives that people can visit. I taught 5th Grade Reading, Language Arts and Social Studies for 4 years. Before that, I subbed quite a bit in just about every grade level (though I tended to shy away from Subjects in the higher levels that I was not comfortable with). I am currently a home schooling mom who likes to design most of her own curriculum, though I do sometimes rely on occasional workbook supplementation.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe in teaching children how to learn, rather than teaching them what to learn. Show them how to learn and they can learn for a life time. Tell them what to learn and they are never free, and we have not done our job in developing independent readers. With that in mind, most of my curriculum is based on children doing research. I give them graphic organizers, and my children actually help me design some of the Math, Reading, and Writing extension activities. All units are generally centered around a Science and/or Social Studies theme. The themes are based on objectives most states are doing at the same time for each given grade level.
