This is adapted from College Planning for Gifted Students, 2nd edition, by Sandra Berger. It is an excellent list of common thoughts about teaching the gifted, as well as a list of reality checks.

This chart, compiled from Queensland Association for Gifted and Talented Children, Inc., Challenge Magazine, and the work of May V. Seagoe, is a valuable resource for the novice teacher who has little experience with identifying the attributes of giftedness.

Having read this brief document, this program seems simpler than ever. Valerie has done oodles of legwork creating extensions and activities that keep those high functioning kids happily challenged. BEst of all, if you use Open Court and a school library, you have everything you need to make it work.

My GATE group is in the process of working on unit 1 in this series. Each item the kids work on is geared directly to their skill level. Best of all, it takes A LOT less time to set up than do my typical workshop activities, and lists resources and numerous suggestions for higher order thinking. Next year our entire team will be using this for our GATE and high acheiving kids!

Disappointing overall for four of the sheets. Only one--which asked the student to fill in categories related to the word, whimpers-- really caused the student to think. That one sheet was exceptional.
