I graduated with an undergraduate degree in social work. I was a music major as well for 3 of those years. Afterwards I moved from Wisconsin to Montana and worked as an orthodontic assistant and eventually a newspaper advertising executive in Missoula, Montana. After 10 years there and 3 children under the age of 4, my family and I moved to Houston, Texas where I worked on my masters in elementary education. After working as a third grade team leader and teacher for over 24 years, I hope I can help others with ideas I have used in my classroom!
I believe that children learn best when they have the opportunity to create and manipulate whenever possible. Children also need practice in order to get better at anything, but they need to feel as if it is 'fun' and/or 'interesting'.

I grew up in rural Wisconsin. I am one of the few people I know who went to a one room school until I was in 5th grade. There were 3 children in my class and 3 classes for one teacher in one room with no running water and a wood burning stove for heat. Recess consisted of playing baseball in the field next door, sledding down the hill near the school, and/or playing 'Annie, Annie, Over The Outhouse' with my classmates!! I skipped Kindergarten because the teacher said I colored the picture she gave me perfectly! That qualified me to go right into first grade. So, I graduated from high school at age 17 and didn't turn 18 until Nov. of my first year of college. My daughters are all grown up now and I'm enjoying my teaching years even more now that we are blocked and I'm concentrating on math and science for my third grade groups. They keep me young and busy!
