It's great that you included the poem. I was taught by this poem in 7th grade, and chose it to teach my 7th grader. Now I have a test to go with it. I'm pleased.

Kids enjoyed the gallery walk! I printed the stanzas on colored paper and they glued them on white paper. My 7th grade gifted class enjoyed the GIST as well as illustrating the stanzas. They needed a little guidance for some of the stanzas since I used this resource as a pre-reading activity.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I have been a language arts teacher for sixteen years. I specialize in middle school language arts instruction. I have been a teacher in Arizona, Nebraska, Virginia, and Kentucky and have worked with urban and rural populations.
MY TEACHING STYLE
First and foremost, I have to connect with my students. Then I find out their interests and draw on those ideas for my lessons. I believe that good teaching comes from a heavy dose of self-reflection on my part. Only then do I find lessons that are meaningful for my students.
