TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching secondary English and Journalism classes for over a decade. I teach a variety of subjects and grade levels, and have worked to create lessons to not only engage my students, but to stay with them once they leave my classroom.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I like to lead the horse to the water, so to speak. I try to entice my students to get into a topic, and then before they know it, they're learning something! I am not a worksheet kind of teacher (in the sense that I give them one and then sit at my desk). I love hands-on, and I love finding new things to enhance the lessons I already have.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I am a fellow of the Bluegrass Writing Project, and served as technology liason for two years. I am also a teacher consultant, and lead PD sessions on a variety of topics. I have been nominated as Kentucky Teacher of the Year four times, and the school newspaper I advise is one of the best in our state!! I won Media Adviser of the Year in Kentucky in 2014.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Masters in Secondary English Education in 2001. I am working on my National Board Certification, and I am an adjunct professor at our local community college, and I teach dual credit English to seniors at my high school.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I am the proud mother of twins!
