I have had experience in K-5 grade, but have taught 5th grade for two years. I am teaching at an alternative/magnet program where we provide an electives program for 1st through 5th grade, and because of this, I teach classes with all grades mixed together in the afternoons.
Thanks to technology, I transform many traditional lessons and activities into open-ended, project-based lessons. I believe the student discovery is more important than my lecturing them (of course, with some guidance).
No teaching awards/honors yet, but I have been asked to teach teachers on using technology and work with the Oregon Writing Project to teach as well.
I grew up in Portland, Oregon and completed my K-12 education in the David Douglas School District. My parents were both teachers, and many other teachers were in my family as well. For that reason, upon graduating, I attended the University of Oregon to pursue a career in teaching. I completed my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education in 2006 with a Minor in Special Education, and the following year completed my Master's degree in Teaching and Learning with an emphasis in Instructional Technology.
Many of the lessons I provide are easily modified or can be used in multiple grade levels. I also teach with a lot of technology and infuse my resources into the lessons as well. Outside of school, I teach a variety of technology seminars/ professional developments on teaching with technology. Some of my lessons and ideas stem from my experiences.
