I have taught with Atlanta Public Schools as well as with an independent school. I am currently homeschooling and love it! I have saved everything that I have created for use with my students over the years and would love to share it with my fellow teachers!
I use a best practices style of teaching. I have learned much from veteran teachers as well as from the students themselves. I believe strongly in cooperative learning as well as brain-based learning. I believe that children should be taught in the manner that best suits them. Learning styles vary greatly in the classroom and I believe that it is up to us, the teachers, to help the children experience the subject matter in a way that is engaging and exciting. I feel that it is crucial that we stimulate children to become lifelong learners who have a passion for discovery of the world around them as well as the world within.
I feel like I am having a shining teaching moment every time I see the pride and excitement in the eyes of a young learner as they have their very own "lightbulb" moment. Maybe they just realized that the words cat and hat rhyme because they sound the same at the end or maybe they just figured out the pattern for counting by two's and are proud of themselves for making this discovery. I may have told them that cat and hat rhyme many times or pointed out the patterns in skip-counting, but it is extremely rewarding to witness when a student finally embraces an educational concept as their very own!!!
