The CSI activity has so much potential, but I don't think that the concept is well explained. I felt that the instructions were vague. Does each group get the same set of clues? When/how do you show the pictures. Overall, I was pretty disappointed!

I revised the instructions a bit. I hope this is clearer.
Have discussion, based on questions they generated and teacher questions, then explain and move into the Crime Scene Activity. Divide the class in half, with four groups on each side, to make eight groups total. You have eight manila envelopes, four of which just contain the worksheet labeled “ESCAPE!” and four of which contain the CSI worksheet as well as the crime scene photos. Hand an envelope to one person in each group. Tell the groups to open their envelopes and read and follow their directions. Monitor their progress. If there is time, have the groups volunteer to report out to the rest of the class. Collect their worksheets when they are done.

This is only the lesson plan. I assumed, wrongly, that it would include everything needed to carry out the lesson plan. If you want the 5 questions the lesson plan refers to, you will have to buy those separately for another $1.50.

3. How did Désirée’s husband change in his behavior towards his slaves once his and Désirée’s baby was first born (before he begins to suspect anything is wrong)?
4. What does Désirée’s husband start to suspect about their child—and thus about her—that leads him to become cold and cruel toward her, and makes him drive her away?
5. What ‘twist’ of situational irony happens at the end of the story, discovered only after the drowning death of Désirée and her child, when she takes her child in her arms and walks into the water of the bayou to kill them both? What do we find out about Désirée’s husband, a revelation that he no doubt finds devastating for many, many reasons?

My sophomores really liked the CSI and Escape exercises. I allowed them to choose which of the two they wanted to do instead of assigning them one or the other and they enjoyed working in groups on the project. I did have a few students who chose to work independently on either the CSI or Escape instead of joining a group.
I asked the seller to clarify how the CSI and Escape was done and received an instant e-mail and a follow-up.
Brandon's work is well done and I would purchase lesson plans from him again. I used this as an anticipatory activity before we read chapters 7 and 8 in Huck Finn. The students enjoyed comparing what they had written with what was actually in the novel.

I decided on yours, but since there was no name or any indication whose store it came from, it was hard to track it down again. You might want to consider putting a link to your store on the preview (and also perhaps copyright information) in case someone loses track of where it came from (like me!). I divide the class in half, and have one half of them do the CSI activity, deducing what happened based on the evidence and eyewitness testimony, while the other half of the class has to use the list of things they have available to escape and not have their captor pursue them. So one half of the class looks at the perspective of the authorities who assume (based on the crime scene) that Huck was murdered (at first suspecting Pap, then later Jim), while the other half has to think like Huck and figure out a way to escape. A few will even think of faking their own death. Anyway, in either case they are working in groups of three.

I bought your Huck Finn Quotation Citation lesson plan which I thought was a Word Template but it appears to be a word printout. I'm having trouble figuring out the directions, just not clear to me as is. Perhaps I should have bought the Worksheet version? It's not a lesson plan; it's a series of worksheets where students use the examples given and the directions to figure out how to properly format quotations according to MLA standards. So, a snapshot of the page, then a word processed version of that, and (given the rules, and examples) students are to format quotations according to MLA standards. You have the students download the document (in a computer lab) and word process the quotations and format them correctly, then print them out, show them to you, and you sign off on them if they are correct or tell them what they did wrong and need to fix if they didn't get it right.

I purchased your Huck Finn lesson for chapters 3 to 6 and it did not include photos so I then purchased the set of photos to go with the crime scene. In reading the lesson plan, it says to divide the students into groups and that each group will have an envelope. But I can't find anything that tells me what goes in the envelopes, how many envelopes, who the envelopes are for (groups or for the sheriff, detective, etc.). It states there are 8 groups 4 of each???? Could you please clarify as I am really excited about doing this in class Wednesday? There are only 5 pictures, is that all of them? PKeefe1845@aol.com

What goes in the envelope is the five pictures, plus the witness statements and the 'arrest warrant.' I would divide the class into eight groups of four each (assuming class size of 32). Half of those groups get the envelope to solve the crime. The other half get the worksheet with the list of items and the task of figuring out a way to escape and not have their captor follow them.
