Excellent product! Well worth the money, since I used so much of it. I love the 5 question quiz format. It was very helpful in checking who actually did the reading. I, too, wish that this was in a format that can be edited. I was unable to get the pdftoword cite to work. Thanks for putting this great product together though.

This is a great unit. It has tons of questions as well as blank answer documents and the keys for quizzes. The only thing that would make it better is if it were not a PDF file, but in one that could be edited. I teach resource level English, and some of the questions are too difficult for my students. There are also over 300 study guide questions. It would be nice to be able to edit the documents to suit your specific needs.

My AP students read this book, and the normal source for rigorous tests didn't have this novel. I was shocked. We use the Mimio technology, so I adapted your test to that software. It really did separate out those who read, sparknotes-ed, or just refrained. Thanks so much!

Unfortunately, I have never read Little Pilgrim's Progress. Since the test asks only questions about plot, I would think the test would work with LPP, but I'm just not sure. I'm sorry I can't be more help.

Messmore re: Kite Runner Unit Materials
I was looking for a multiple choice test. This served as a good basis, but required quite a bit of work to adapt. I was surprised at the number of errors. For example, Zalman instead of Zaman. Kyber Pass instead of Khyber Pass. Also, there are question errors. For example, Q48 of Short Answer asks what Amir does for an entire year. I believe it should ask what Sohrab does for an entire year since the answer is "stay silent."

Oh, Asa, this is such a hard question because so much depends on the community where you teach. I taught the book to 11th and 12th graders because they were old enough to deal maturely with the book's profanity and also understand the book's tone. Although I know other teachers have taught the book successfully to 9th graders, I'm afraid it would have caused an uproar in my community. Good-luck to you!

TEACHING EXPERIENCE
I worked in schools either as a middle school teacher, high school teacher, or administrator for over thirty years. Most of my experience has been in high school English classrooms. I have taught everything from ninth-grade literature to students with major reading problems all the way to AP English Language and Composition teacher. Although I love teaching, I retired at the end of the 2009-2010 school year when over 500 teachers in my district lost their jobs because of the bad economy. I'm praying that the economy will improve and I will be able to find another teaching job in high school or college in the future.
MY TEACHING STYLE
I like to have fun in the classroom, and I want my students to enjoy reading and writing. I also realize however that we must have high standards for ourselves and high standards for our students. I believe in providing extensive opportunities for students to read, write, and share their work with their peers. I am also traditional in that I believe students must read works carefully and that their writing must exhibit correct use of standard written English.
