Your lesson plan can teach about Climate Change directly or it can use Climate Change as a central theme through which to teach standard skills in your subject area.

If you were to teach about Climate Change directly, here is a sampling of the main topics:

  • The Greenhouse Effect
  • Energy Demands
  • Ice Ages and Planetary Weather Cycles
  • The Risks to the Planet
  • Solutions (both big and small)
  • The Politics of Climate Change

Or using Climate Change as your thematic content, you can teach almost any standard skill(s). For example:

  • Math teachers could teach about fractions, arithmetic, or ratios using temperature fluctuation data
  • English and Language Arts teachers could develop creative or expository writing assignments that thematically revolve around Climate Change
  • Social Studies and History teachers might use Climate Change current events to teach students how to analyze the news
  • Science teachers have it easiest and can use Climate Change to teach a wide range of science skills in the fields of meteorology, geology, biology, chemistry and physics
  • Health & Physical Education teachers can use Climate Change as the springboard to discuss the environmental effects of pollution on the human body
  • Art and Music teachers might have students create pieces that use art or music to represent future planetary effects of Climate Change
