Gummy Worm Observation
Students will use their science process skills to complete this simple lab on observations. This activity can be used to show the relationship between quantitative and qualitative observations. Students will make qualitative observations about a gummy worm using their 5 sense
We create interactive science notebooks every year and they are definitely a work in progress! These are one of the first entries in our science notebook every year! First, students create the flap books that show our science process skills and then they practice using each one with gummy worms.
This is a fun lab for students to explore the process of osmosis. They love this lab because they get to use Gummy Bears (or Gummy Worms if you like or both), even though they cannot eat them (I usually buy extra gummy bears so they can eat them the next day when they do their second observations) a
Great lab to conduct at the start of the year in Science class. This lab involves quantitative observations, qualitative observations, metric conversions, measuring the mass of an object, and measuring volume by displacement. Plus the kids love eating a new gummy worm at the end of the lab!
Hands-on observations of similar living and nonliving things will help students SEE the characteristics of what makes things alive! Students will LOVE these comparisons! Do one a day... The following questions are:
Does it need food?
Does it need water?
This a always a hit with my students! In this lab packet, students need to compare the sizes of two different gummy worms: Giant Gummy Worms and Standard-sized Gummy Worms. The students must make observations, comparisons, calculations, predictions, etc. throughout the lab!
