If you are teaching your students about other cultures, I highly recommend having them do a reading on A Thousand Splendid Suns. While reading the book, there is a documentary called, Half the Sky, that you could introduce them to so they can make connections with human rights issues they may see in both the book and documentary. This is just a sample lesson of what you could do during this time in a unit.
