Get students hooked on research in a fun and creative way. This group project allows for learning cooperatively, improving research skills, solving problems, improving personal writing, and practicing presentation skills. It is a high interest activity that generates excitement with students.
I typically use this unit with my lower level classes in which students are reluctant to conduct research for fear of the traditional research paper. This unit gets students excited about research.
Another bonus about the project is that it is cross-curricular. I use it in my English Language Arts classes, but it also involves social studies, math, and life skills.
This could also be adapted to correspond with a unit on Homer's Odyssey.
