Nighty Night- Pillow Fight! A Differentiated -IE, -IGH Vowel Team Game for Small Groups by Learning Moore in First is a motivating and fun way for students to practice their fluency and phonics skills.
Two sets of cards are included, one for on-level/ below level learners (black cards) and the other is for more advanced readers (green cards).
This game works just like Old Maid– except you don’t want to be the one left with the “Pillow Fight” card at the end– instead of the Old Maid. The object is to make a match with all of the cards in your hand.
Deal out all of the cards to the players.
Players take turns drawing a card from their neighbor, circling around the table. If they make a match they have to lay the match down in front of them and use the word they matched in a sentence.
Play continues until all matches are made and one person is left with the “Pillow Fight” card.
As an extension you could have students sort the –ie
from the –igh words. You could also have students give rhyming words for their matches instead of sentences– depending on the skills your kiddos need practice with.
There are also some blank cards for you to add words to meet the needs of your kiddos.
