Teaching young readers to decode words from common word families is crucial for kindergarten and first grade classrooms; this book will help students learn to read these words, while practicing other emerging reading skills!
This packet includes an emergent reader focusing on the -in word family. The text is not predictable, so that students are required to use their sight word knowledge to read the text. In addition, there is an optional last page of the emergent reader on which the students will write three words from the word family. This packet also includes two practice pages; on the first page, students sound out 5 words from the word family to write the words in sound boxes. on the second page, the sound boxes are removed; students write the 5 words and then choose one word to use in a sentence. Pocket chart cards with pictures, letters, and words are also included to use as a whole group word building activity and/or a center activity.
The text in this book is as follows:
There is a shark in the water. We can see the fin.
Look at the girl. She has a chin.
The girl is so
happy. Look at her big grin.
I have a big pin and two little pins.
Look at the man. He is going to win!
This book includes the same text on both the top and bottom of each sheet of paper to make copying, sorting, stapling, and cutting easy to create a class set of little books!!
