This activity is a hands on center or small group activity aimed to help early learners understand the concept of word families. It also helps to foster independence identifying beginning sounds and with reading word family words.
To complete the activity, students must use magnetic letters, ABC clothes pins, or a dry erase marker to add a beginning sound onto a word family card. Each card is missing the beginning sound. The students should then practice reading the word and write it on to the corresponding recording sheet.
This FREEBIE includes 1 page of color blank -ip word family cards plus 1 card with suggested beginning letters, 1 page of black and white blank -ip word family cards plus 1 card with suggested beginning letters, and 1 recording sheet.
