This exercise contains 8 riddles on the topic of animals. They are written entirely in Spanish, but the complete glossary at the bottom of the page allows even beginning students to read, understand, and solve the riddles. All the verbs in the riddles are in the "YO-form."

When I use these riddles with 5th though 8th grade Spanish students, I follow these steps:

1) I read each of the riddles aloud to assist students with
pronunciation.

2) I have students work in pairs to read the riddles (using the
glossary as much as they need to) and figure out the
answers.

3) Students then switch partners and ask each other the riddles
out loud. The first time around, the students can "peek" at
the written riddles and the answer choices, but with time they
should be able to answer by looking at only the answer
choices (which are all written as statements, "Tu eres el
cocodrilo," etc.).

4) Students conduct a "game show style completion," one team
against another.
